Get to know: Bhogal

Bhogal is a new artist from Toronto who just dropped his project “The Comeback” mixtape. We got a chance to talk with Bhogal and get to know him. Check it out below and be sure to stream his tape.

Where you from?
Born in Toronto, Canada in 1988. Grew up in Mississauga and Brampton, Canada.

How did you get your start in music?
When I was young I lived in a complex called Ridgeway aka Rotten Ridge in Mississauga. My friends and I from there used to rap for fun but then the first time I ever recorded anything I was 12 years old. My friend Troy and I recorded into a Boom Box that had a built in microphone with instrumentals on one cassette and a blank cassette to record onto. Since then I’ve constantly been involved with music.

How long have you been making it?
I’ve been making music since about 12 doing low quality recordings. But in 2006 I met my producer Kris Ryckman while working at a grocery store and he helped me develop my skills and sound. We stopped making music in 2010 and went in different directions. I rapped until about age 22 but then after some incidents I decided to join the Canadian Army. I was injured during my service so I am back to rapping after a 7 year break. The ability never left and I am back to what I am best at.

Who are your influences?
My 3 main musical influences are 2pac, DMX and 50 Cent. These 3 artists are my biggest influences in music and my favorite rappers of all time. To me not one is better than the other and all are the best in their own ways.

What motivates you?
What motivates me is the ability to not be able to do much physically without chronic pain. I was involved in a car accident where I am lucky to be alive. My car flipped and rolled out of a ditch in 2012 leaving the entire roof crushed to the head rests except for right above my drivers seat. This along with the physical demand of being in the army has left me in bad physical shape. I left the military after 4.5 years due to injuries sustained while serving. This is what motivates me to show my ability and talent to the world as an artist.

What are you currently working on?
I just released my first mixtape The Comeback Mixtape on April 2nd 2018 and am working on releasing music videos for some tracks off the album. I have a single called Hip Hop on an original beat to be released with a video on all streaming services Spotify and more at the end of April. My first EP will be released on 9/11/2018.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I see myself continuing to make quality Hip Hop music and having a strong fan base that will support my style of Hip Hop. I would like to break into the Asian and European markets as well and build a fan base there to be able to tour and gain popularity in Europe and Asia.

What is your opinion on the current hiphop scene?
Currently the Hip Hop scene is lacking originality. Most new artists are sounding the same with the exception of a few who started these different waves like Drake with singing and rapping and Gucci Mane/The Migos with their style of trap rap. I may not be a fan of a lot of new artists like Lil Pump, Tekashi 69 or Lil Xan. But I do commend them on being able to captivate an audience in order to make a living and a great one at that.
