Get to know: CTrip

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

I go by CTrip, and I am a hip-hop & R&B Artist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

How did you get your start in music?

I’ve always had a musical ear, Im one of those people that could be listening to like Cage the Elephant then start playing some Future. I grew up listening to more alternative shit & catching up with rap music. For me, It wasnt always making music though. I would write a lot of poetry, I played the saxophone when I was like 12 and did that for a few years. Besides that, I always knew I could sing a little and like a lot of people you just freestyle with your friends from time to time. Some of us would just be blowing it down and spittin to kill time. People around me would just tell me i need to start making songs. I would write my little raps here and there. Eventually, I just kinda knew that I could put my thoughts on wax in a dope way. Then it started. I dropped my first song almost 2 years ago. At first, I was recording myself and kinda learning along the way. Then I starting going to some studios and really started being able to lock in. Since then Ive just been working on perfecting my sound and finding inspiration from various things in my life.

Who are your influences?

Some of my influences are Kid Cudi, Future, The Weeknd, Lucki, & Mac Miller. I just really like when artists speak real life shit, not just the fake flashy shit. I really pay attention to lyrics, & what they convey. Not everything in real life is glamorous

What motivates you?

I’m motivated every day by progression. I wanna be able to say I’m a better person than I was the day before, a better artist, etc. I’m also motivated by just envisioning the life I want to live. I know for me to get where I wanna go, I can’t lack or ever get comfortable. I don’t want to work a “Job”, hating what I do everyday just to live for when I’m not at work. It’s not even really a get rich thing with me, I just want to spend my time doing what I want to do and what I enjoy.

What are you working on?

I just dropped a short 4-song EP called ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ earlier this month. You can find that on ALL streaming platforms. The tape was only 11min and I think people rocking with it, so now I’m about to start working on some visuals. I’m excited for that because the EP was more melody driven and vibey, so I think we’ll be able to make some really dope shit.

Whats next for you in the next 5 years?

I think that if I continue what I started and keep moving how I am, in 5 years I’ll be where I wanna be. I don’t have any Management or budgets behind me or anything, I’m just doing me. I just wanna connect with people and make music that people can feel wherever. Don’t get me wrong, I’m tryna count up, but it’s not all about the bread for me. Some of my favorite artists are lowkey legends, underrated and got money, but will never be Drake status..politics man.

Whats your opinion on the current state of HipHop?

It’s dope man, there’s a lot going on but its good. I like how anyone has a space to say whatever they want to say if they can grab a audience. That’s what gives me motivation, anything can happen for an artist, especially if there’s real talent. I just feel like sometimes real talent gets drowned out by all the bullshit
