Indy Spotlight: Ramy Khodeir

We recently chopped it up with Ramy and got to know more about him in our latest Indy Spotlight. Check it out below

Explain who you are for those who may not know

I am Ramy Khodeir. I am an entrepreneur, researcher, musician, boxer, and a model. Also, I’m publishing my book in a month so I guess I’m also an author.

Where you from?

My parents are from Cairo, Egypt and Casablanca, Morocco, but I was born in Louisville, Kentucky. I might incorporate my background into my music which would make it unique.

How did you get your start in music?

I got started in 2016. My friend said I couldn’t rap at a camp, so I decided to make a song at the camp and performed it live to everyone at the end. It was fun, so I just built off from there. In January 2019, I dropped a single “Can’t Lose.” This blew up really fast. People from different high schools in Louisville would promote it. All I hear at my school was CAN’T LOSE! In 2019, I dropped my EP “Live It Up.”

When did you start music?

My first published song was in January 2019. My first EP was in July 2019.

Who are your influences?

Lil Uzi Vert. I like how he has different flows, different sounds, different types of music. To me, his music is not categorizable. It’s very unique.

What do you do to find motivation?

I motivate myself. Anything I put my mind to, I do the grind. I believe anything is possible. You have to take chances.

What are you working on?

I’m currently working on my new single which will be released with a music video. I am going to make this my best work ever. I’ve made many versions of the song. I’m a perfectionist.

Where do you see yourself In 5 years?

I see myself doing things I would have never thought of. Life is the best thing ever known.

What do you think about the current state of HipHop?

Many people see the new generation good or bad. I see hip hop culture as an evolvement. Music evolves. Sound evolves. People just need to understand that.

Anything else you would like to say?

I am a brand. I don’t want to be categorized into a specific field. I do what I want— what I’m passionate about.
