Get inside Captain’s “Wicked Reality”

Captain is a new artist from Knoxville, TN. Starting music at 15, he fell in love with the process. He recently released “Wicked Reality” which takes you deep inside his mind. We had a chance to talk with him and got to know more about him. Check it out below and be sure to stream his project

Explain who you are for those who may not know
I’m a 18 year old hip-hop artist born and raised in Knoxville, TN. I try to focus on the real topics people go through in day-to-day life, I enjoy making music people can learn from and relate to.

How did you get your start in music?
I started making music when I was 15. I met with a local producer / friend of mine Lightzout and he showed me some of the music he was working on at the time. I told him I wanted to give it a try and that’s when he made me a beat and gave me the opportunity to record it in his studio. After that I fell in love with the process and continued to work with him once or twice a week after school. If it wasn’t for him I definitely would not be where I am at today.

Who are your influences?
My main musical influences would have to be Lightzout, Lil Wayne, and Micheal Jackson

What motivates you?
there is a handful of local artists in my city who motivate me to better myself. Also the young kids who come up to me singing my songs really makes me want to uphold a good image for them to look up to. I would say those are the 2 main things that motivate me to keep going.

What are you currently working on?
Right now I’m working on a collaboration project with Ukamea. I expect to have that  finished and released by early summer.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years from now I expect to be in Los Angeles making music for a living. My main goal in all of this is to be able to support a family while I continue doing what I love to do. When I reach that goal I will be able to die a happy man.

What is your opinion on the current hiphop scene?
The hip-hop scene continues to evolve year after year. Right now I feel like 90% of the new artists just focus on making party music. Although there is nothing wrong with that, I would like to see more of a focus on lyricism rather than catchy meaningless lines.

What are some of your biggest accomplishments?
My biggest music accomplishments would be my opening credits. Those include Lil Uzi Vert, Ugly God, Tee Grizzley, Curren$y, and Ayo & Teo
