Explain who you are for those who may not know
For those who don’t know me I go by Rob Tha Lyrical Geek

How did you come up with your name?
I came up with the name 3 years ago but my name in the past was Chief Nappy Boy.! I changed it cause I quit rapping for a couple of months probably 9 at the most cause I wasn’t serious. Then I decided to make my come back because nobody lyrical anymore so I came back and switch my name to Rob Tha Lyrical Geek cause when I started back rapping again I was writing shit I never wrote before lyrical wise that’s why I changed my name.!

Where are you from?
I’m from a small place called Racine Wi (262)

What was it like growing up there?
Growing up here was okay we lived in the project had 2 sisters 2 brothers mom made sure we was good father locked up but it’s all love.! Came out the project at age 10 I think moved to a better neighborhood and better schools. So life got better for me around age 10. For the music in my city they support popularity not talent so I never shined in music but that never changed me and my music.!

How did you get into music?
I got into music at the age 14! My favorite rappers growing up was 2pac Ice Cube Hopsin Eminem & Lil Wayne.! Bought my 1st mic at the age of 17 & recorded ever since that’s when I knew I was serious about music.!

How are you different from other artists?
I’m different from other rappers cause I’m lyrical.! I say stuff you never heard of before I believe I’m a combine of Hopsin & Wayne mix together but I just have a different flow. These rappers say the same stuff in every rap never switch it up.!

What are you working on?
I’m currently working on a mixtape called “Journey II Success which will be out & ready by early October.!

Stay tuned.

Explain who you are for those who don’t know
My name is Brandon White a.k.a. Mr. Irritating. I’m 22 and for those who don’t know about me, one important thing you should know is I never really grew up with the ideas of wanting to be a “rapper” or an artist. I was always heavily focused on studying, getting good grades, going to college, etc.  When I first came out with music in 2015, it was kind of a surprise to some people in my town and even myself cause I never thought I had that type of ability or talent in me. My grandad has been traveling all around the world performing his music since I was little, my dad used to song-write and was a pretty well-known DJ in college, so I guess it makes sense that I ended up making music haha. It’s in my DNA.

How did you come up with your name?
In freshman year, I went to Towson University in Maryland and half of the time I had no idea what they were saying because their slang was so different than the slang in South Jersey/Philly. Even though it’s not technically slang, a lot of the MD girls I met down there would call me “irritating” (in a good way) because my personality is just extra and animated haha. I thought it was funny, so I just decided to change my twitter name to @MrIrritating. After I started rapping and developing my sound, I just decided to keep that twitter name as my rap name because I felt like  it complimented my sound but in a good way.

Where are you from?
Voorhees in South Jersey. Right by Philly.

Whats it like growing up where your from?
Where I’m from, there’s just a lot of successful people around you pretty much. I grew up about 2 houses down from Brian Dawkins from the Eagles. There’s a lot of big houses and nice cars everywhere. The parents pretty much let their kids do whatever. You’ll see parents drop their 15 or 16 year old kids off with hella beer talm bout, “Have a good night, sweetie!”. I remember one time I even smoked weed with my elementary school basketball coach a couple years ago haha so that kinda gives an idea of where I’m from.

How did you get into music?
I’ve always struggled with severe depression since I was 13, but when I was 19 it was starting to get really bad. I was passing out in public on campus and my room from anxiety attacks. They had to send me to a psychological center on campus and I had talked to someone there. He suggested that I try taking up a hobby and when he said that I had no clue what hobby to pick that would really help me out. So, he told me to just think about it. Earlier that year, I tried to start learning how to write rhymes, nothing serious, and my friend Mel suggested that I try actually writing and recording a song. I was straight up like, “Nah, nah I’m not really trying to rap. Everyone raps now. I’m not tryna be like everybody else”. The next day she comes in my room with a USB microphone with a mic stand, gives it to me, and tells me to give it a try. Next thing you know, I have multiple people in my dorm listening to me rap into the microphone, coming by room to see what I’m working on, and that’s how it all started.

What makes you different than other artists?
One thing that makes me different from other artists is definitely my voice and how I perceive music. On my songs, I’m basically just a much more exaggerated and animated version of myself to help communicate the message of whatever I’m saying. A lot of the stuff I write in verses addresses problematic people and situations I come across that irritate me, so I like to exaggerate my voice aggresively because I feel it helps me fully get my point across. I kinda like to combine acting with rapping. For my next videos, I really wanted to debut my acting talent with the music.

What are you currently working on
I’m currently working on stacking up tracks, getting videos done, etc. My team realized last year that we have the potential to go further with this, so that’s what were working on and pretty happy with the results in the short time it’s been. We’re still figuring out what the best moves are for us and what’s not.

Anything you would like to say?
I feel like I said enough already haha

Indy Spotlight: STARJAY

Explain who you are for those who don’t know
My name is starjay, I’m a rapper out of Brooklyn I’ve been at it for awhile, I’ve had meetings with people like dj enuff to execs from Atlantic and everybody loves the music but you have to put up numbers so that’s what I’m focused on until somebody takes a chance.

How did you come up with your name?
Well my given name is shajay and when I started rapping my friends started calling me starjay so I’ve been star since I was a kid. The block named me.

Where are you from?
I’m from coney island, last stop on the train.

Whats it like growing up where your from?
It was good and bad, bad cause it’s poverty out here. The average income per house hold is $9k and these are households with multiple people living off that amount so if you’re fortunate out here you’re lucky. But I had a good childhood, we had fun we was oblivious to all the dangerous shit going on around us that now shapes the kind of music I make. So it was like a gift and a curse growing up out here, this not a place you should raise you’re kids though or even want to hang at it’s just bad energy with a good day here and there. This place fucked alot of us up mentally and made a lot of us mentally strong, it’s home and always will be but I want something better for me and mine.

How did you get into music?
Well when I was younger my uncle always had all the music and would plaza it around the crib and you know I would freestyle off my head but it always made sense. When my uncle passed that was when I was like let me take this serious and started writing with a purpose. So to answer you’re question I always loved music but my uncle always playing it made me want to be involved and plus he used to sing so you know someway I feel this is him living through me.

What makes you different than other artists?
The content, it varies it’s not all party and turn up. I’m aware of our surroundings, how being a young black man is hard as shit. How coming from a single parent household gives you a whole other set of issues. How growing up fucked up made you want the fly shit you couldn’t get when was a kid. So I try to speak on everything I try not to let people box me in. Plus I’m super nice so even songs like triggaman where I’m speaking on the deaths of young black men as well as young black men killing young black men don’t come off as preachy it’s still some shit you can knock.

What are you currently working on?
Currently working on #ForeverYoung2 which I’m almost done with so September I’ll be dropping that.

Anything you would like to say?
Just want to say look out for my new music and if you haven’t heard of me come fuck with you’re boy you won’t be disappointed. Follow my soundcloud (www.soundcloud.com/Starjay31) for all new music and freestyles. I appreciate this and hopefully we can do this again when my new shit drop.

Indy Spotlight: Smurf The God

smurf-4

Explain who you are for those who may not know
I’m a humble person, I give respect when its due. I’m giving and caring but im also a demon. Ive been making music since I was 14, grew up in a single household with my mom. I come from section 8 with one brother. It made me the man I am today. I’m a hustler, a grinder. Music saved my life, if it wasn’t for music, I would be a loos screw out here. I would definitely be dead or in jail.

How did you come up with your name?
My name was given to me, cuz i was crippin hard at a young age. Smurfs are blue and i was a lil blue nigga. I added God later on when i started rapping because we are all gods. It sais that black men where gods. To me a god is someone that has mastered their ability. Showing they’re the best. When it comes to this rap shit i am a God.

Where are you from?
Saint Petersburg, Florida

Whats was it like growing up there?
Its really what you make it. Everyone is doing everything at young ages. Seem like everyone is grown at a young age. 11 years. Kids killin kids, kicking doors, same shit u see in every ghetto really. But it seem like saint pete really the bottom. I go other place but it dont be like saint pete. Saint pete is big but small at the same time. Everyone knows everyone, everyone is trying to come up. Everyone tryna finnesse its just a lil place full of finesses. its the bottom.

How did you get into music?
I got into music, after being abused by my moms boyfriend growing up. It was how i dealt with things. I didnt take it serious till i got older. I kept it to myself. When i got older i met my close friends Bang, Kel, Bam and Max. They was rappin so i started to freestyle on the beat aswell. We started linking up at the park free styling everyday. We was linking at the park beeffin wit niggas, playin ball and rapping. Niggas started telling me i could really rap so i started to do it for real. Seemed like my homie Kel was as good as I but it got to a point he couldnt keep up. So he went into boxing cuz we used to slap box alot. He was the man at that.

What makes you different than other artists?
Everyting i rap about are facts. I am versatile. I can do trap music, i can do conscious rap. I think i can do pop if i really wanted to. I can hop on any beat. Thing about me is you may see songs with me on tracks with Justin Beiber then I can switch it up and do a record with DMX. My abilities are limitless.

What are you working on?
I am currently working on my newest project Demon Child. I dropped The Last Laff as my first project which was an instant classic to me. However, I want to show more of my versitiliy on my newer projects. So Im dropping two projects, Demon Child as a rap project and “The Blueprint” shining light on my more Hip Hop catalog. My content is deep, I have alot to say.

Whats next from you?
Look out for Demon Child and The Blue Print. I will be dropping videos from The Last Laff until then. If you want to listen to someone with something to say, just play me. La Cosca Or Nothing NIGGA!!!!

Get to know: Johnny Do It

uncle

Explain who you are for those who don’t know
For those that don’t know I go by the name of Johnny Do It. I’m just a young artist on my grind trying to come up in the game.

How did you com up with your name?
Well originally my name was Lil J3. It was a basketball name at the time I just rolled with it as a rap name too, but I figured it’s too many “Lil” rappers in the game so I wanted something different. I got Johnny because that’s my name of course & then came up with “Do It” just randomly. At the time I think I was looking at a Nike shirt or something & they is slogan “Just Do It” so I just switched it to Johnny. It had a ring to it so I stuck with it ever since.

Where are you from?
I’m from Sacramento, California.

What was it like growing up there?
Growing up in Sac is pretty cool. You got your good & bad about it as you do in most cities. It can be a quiet & peaceful place & it can be a rowdy place where dudes get active. It just all depends on who you are & how you move. It’s one of the cities that get overlooked because of the Bay Area & the LA influence on the game. But it’s a city full of people with potential just waiting for they shot to make it out.

How did you get into music?
I been around music my whole life. No matter what the genre is. I like everything from Rock, Rap, R&B, Gospel, Oldies, i mean the list go on & on. Different people I’ve come across in life introduced me to different forms of music. I believe diversity is key. Don’t want to stick to just one type of music.

What makes you different than other artists?
What makes me different from other artists is that I’m true to myself. Alot of the artists is rapping about things they don’t do or have never done before in they life. I’m not out here trying to portray an image of something I’m not. Anything you hear from me on a record is all facts.

What are you working on?
Right now I’m just continuing recording new material spending time trying to perfect my craft, getting these visuals shot & things like that.

Anything else you would like to say?
I got alot of music out there & multiple projects that you haven’t heard so give yourself a chance to get familiar with me. Follow me on IG & Twitter, Check out my soundcloud, & subscribe to my channel on Youtube. I rocks with everybody that rocks with me. It’s always love
