17Majinn Talks Rebranding, “Xanny Party,” and What Is Coming Next
It has been a minute since we last caught up with 17Majinn, formerly known as MTKuponthetrack. While it may have seemed like he stepped away from music, he has actually been rebuilding his identity and taking a more strategic approach to his career.
HHR caught up with 17Majinn to discuss his rebrand, the story behind “Xanny Party,” his upcoming projects, and where he sees his music going next.
HHR: It has been a minute. How has everything been, and what made you step back for a while?
17Majinn: Everything has been good. I rebranded from MTKuponthetrack to 17Majinn in 2019, so I guess that is why it seems like I have been absent. I have really been taking a more strategic approach with my music this time around.
HHR: What do you have planned for the rest of the year, music wise?
17Majinn: I have more videos coming, and I am also dropping two more albums this year. One of them is called The 17 Files. It will have 10 tracks, all produced exclusively by me.
HHR: What made you revisit “Xanny Party” for your latest release?
17Majinn: Believe it or not, “Xanny Party” originally dropped in 2021. I would say that was around the time I was really finding the sound of 17Majinn. I decided to shoot a video for it because so many people love the song.
It is relatable to people who have experienced the party life, trap life, or drug life. It is a fun, melodic track that really defines who 17Majinn is as an artist.
HHR: What inspired the video and its overall concept?
17Majinn: To be honest, I turned “Xanny Party” into an EP with different remixes and versions. My plan is to shoot videos for all of them and eventually turn everything into one big connected movie.
“Xanny Party” is the first one on that list. It is also what people call a cult classic because it has become one of the defining songs of 17Majinn. I did not give it that name. Some of my supporters did.
HHR: What do you think has changed the most since you first started making music?
17Majinn: My level of seriousness and the way I look at the industry have definitely changed. My sound has changed too, of course. After the rebrand, I decided to take a different approach to the music, social media, and everything else surrounding the brand.
I would say my sound has changed from when I was MTKuponthetrack. I have been through a lot more ups and downs as 17Majinn, so this version of me feels more official and easier to build into a recognizable brand.
HHR: Where do you see your music going in the future?
17Majinn: To be honest, I see my music eventually having an impact similar to Chief Keef when he first came out, or even the GOAT, Young Thug.
Right now, it feels like people do not fully understand me musically. Eventually, though, I believe people will catch up to the sound, and it could really take over.
HHR: Is there anything else you would like people to know?
17Majinn: Be on the lookout for the new music and videos I have coming. Also, go watch my two interviews, 17 Questions With 17Majinn 1 and 17 Questions With 17Majinn 2, if you want to understand me and my story a little better.
Make sure you follow me on TikTok too because I post there frequently.
