Get to know: J.Rose

How did you come up with your name?

My real name is Jalen and I was named after Jalen Rose the basketball player so people in the street started calling me J.Rose and J.Boogie. When I started rapping my uncle Mr $hoo$h added the Bawse at the end because he said he always wanted me to have that mind state to think like a boss.

Where are you from?

Boston, Massachusetts in the South End or Lower Roxbury

Whats it like growing up where your from?

It was typical inner city life with drugs, guns and gangs, a lot of good times, a lot of bad times but I managed to have fun with my family and stay out of trouble. it was like a tale of two cities sometimes very ugly but mostly very beautiful and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

How did you get into music?

My family has always been involved in music since I could remember. All of my uncles, cousins and even my aunts rap, sing or produce. I started out listening to Jay-Z and my favorite group was Bone Thugs N Harmony and I was raised on Cash Money. When it was my time my “Unkle Kuzzin” Keet Kolbang invited me to his basement to record my first song and here I am.

What makes you different than other artists?

Well I’m from Boston where we always see things totally differently than everyone else and we’re never afraid to speak our mind. I’ve been told that I have a distinctive voice so everyday I try to use it to express myself the best way that I can. Any music that I create always begins with a vibe or feeling and my goal is to transfer that feeling into whoever’s listening. Bottom line though is I’m just different, I’m a different breed and I do this for everyone else around me more than for myself so it means so much more to me.

What are you currently working on?

I just finished the follow up project to my Roses Ep which is called Roses II, I’m working on a collab project with another Boston artist Trueli and finishing up the next Bean$tock project.

How did you come up with your name?

As a kid I can remember always getting into MAD trouble, always getting suspended from school just being a regular degular bad ass kid. I can also remember that being a time that my mom had sat me down with a long time family friend who told me that “only you could be the king of your destiny” and it stuck with me ever since so it became an acronym I lived by KODA (King Of my Destiny & Ambition). Almighty came from the impact that I wanted my music to have on those that listened.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Boston, Ma (Mattapan specifically) but when things started getting crazier in the streets my mom moved us to a small town away from the city called Stoughton when I turned 14

Whats it like growing up where your from?

Its really just like every other city I GUESS, you have your trap stars, you have your shooters, the ones who want to make a difference and the ones just trying to make a way out. Moving away from it all gave me a chance to see the world threw a different light that there was a life beyond the hood. I was lucky enough to get a glace of it all and independently make the decision to follow my own path.

How did you get into music?

This music is really embedded in my DNA. As a kid I wrote passionately and daily until my mom put me into the church choir that was when I began to find my voice, over the years I experimented with my sound and became comfortable with myself as an artist.

What makes you different than other artists?

I KNOW I’m bringing a completely different style to my city, in a time when everything and everyone sounds the same I’m determined to bring back the feeling of actually being able to “feel” every word my listeners hear when they play my music EVERYTIME

What are you currently working on?

I JUST dropped my newest single “Can’t Wait” available on all major music platforms with a visual following it, I’m currently working on ALOT of visuals some dropping sooner than you think, I’m also working on my upcoming project “Million Dollar Dreams” dropping in January 2018
