Indy Spotlight: DJ The Rapper

We recently chopped it up with DJ The Rapper and talked about his new project, where he’s from, what’s next for him, and more. Check it out below:

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

DJ The Rapper,  I’m 17 years old and I’m the hardest youngin out– POINT BLANK  PERIOD!!

How long have you been doing music?

Umm, I’ve been doing music since I was 10… going on 11, so 6 years.

Where are you from?

I’m from Nashville! Lived in Houston, but I rep Nashville, Tennessee.

Who are your influences?

I’d have to say Lil Boosie when I was young–like, when I was real young…right now I’d say myself!! I’m just different like that! (chuckles)

What are you currently working on?

Well,  I am still making music, because that’s what I actually LIKE doing. But I’m putting all my energy and focus  on the album I just dropped– Problem Child– y’all go stream that!. I’m not really working on anything else, just pushing this right now.

What can we expect from your new project?

HITS!! Every song is a hit– 12 out of 12!! No skips!

Do you have a lot planned for the rest of 2020?

Yeaaaa!! I plan on dropping all 2020! I plan to be one of the hottest out by December– no cap! Because it takes a couple of months for an album to blow. But I have faith in ME, so I plan to be popping by the end of 2020.

Anything else you would like to say?

Go stream Problem Child– that Problem Child is out NOW by DJ The Rapper featuring Lil Baby, Youngboy, Clever, and Boosie

Get to know: Jay Honest

We recently chopped it up with Canadian entrepreneur, Jay Honest. He is a man of many different passion’s/businesses. We talked with him about his beginnings, his grind, label, and where he plans to be in the future. Check it out below:

Where are you from?

My names Jay Honest from Ottawa, the capital of Canada

What’s it like being from there?

The city has its beautiful pieces and its broken pieces, like a puzzle, some are missing, such as city wide support even for basic things outside music, rising as a musician or rapper from my city is (in my opinion) harder than most places as canada has a small population, not many major label resources, and not much happens out here unless you live in Toronto or Vancouver.

Who are your Influences?

Because I had split parents, I had a wide range of musical influences growing up, from country to metal to pop and rap, Pac & Bone Thugz, to Three Days Grace & My Chemical Romance, to Ne-Yo & Chris Brown. These days I’d say I’m highly influenced by the more energetic mainstream rappers as that’s my musical preference, Rich the Kid , Tyga, SkiMask to name a few.

What makes you different from other artists?

I don’t have a team, since I began planning this back in 2012, I did it all alone, never had a big groups of friends that were into creating, in my city there isn’t a lot of that, and when you find it, they are already busy with their team. To say I’ve achieved 1.4m streams, played shows, have fans around the world and maintain my life thanks to my music, I’d say that makes me different, cause, regardless of what anyone says, thinks, the image they have placed on me or the doubt they have in their mind, I am too determined to stop trying until I succeed

How long have you been doing music?

Since I was extremely young, my bestfriend/brother was an extremely talented musician before his passing in 2018 (Rest In Peace Matthias Foks) , and he would always play music, he got me into it really… Age 6 i’d say was when i was writing songs, poems and formulating proper song templates, since then I’ve been experimenting and developing.

Talk to us about your label. What’s it called?

HONESTGANG, we’re a group of young talented individuals all chasing the same thing, happiness and success thru our passion. We have singers Nicki Tha Great & Devonté , Female Rapper Kvyybez & Rappers Millinnial X & Myself aswell as a group from Kenya finding great success right now called Sheddy Empire , you can find all them at www.honestgang.us/artists or on instagram @Nickithagreat @devontesworld @kvyybez @millinnialx @iamjayhonest @sheddyempire

How did it start and why?

This goes back to my bestfriend Matt, before he passed, our goal as kids growing up was to make a team of like minded people, and when he died, realizing I have a son, I needed to make this passion into a career to help sustain not only myself and my family but to help others do the same the way my brother would have wanted. I take no royalties from my artists, no percent cuts, no publishing, no masters, its UNHEARD OF in the game currently and its more of a family than a label.

What’s next for you?

I may have a project dropping very soon, before 2020 is over, or next week, who knows, I always have content for my audience wether its my hourly stories on instagram , my daily posts or on my youtube channel! But I see a major feature coming up!!

Anything else you’d like to say?

Indy Spotlight: M Dot Taylor

M Dot Taylor is a certified Rapper/Singer who is focused on his career, family, and goals. He is a military veteran (Navy) who is now dedicating his time to music after giving 5 years of his life to the military. “I realize the music industry is dominated by the artists that work the hardest, so I use that as fuel to go hard in every aspect in life, not just music” expressed M Dot Taylor. The Detroit Michigan native began writing when he was 10 but began recording when he was 12 yrs old.

“Growing up in Detroit, no matter who you are or where you’re from you’ll eventually find yourself in church, and for me being at church was a get away because it seemed like everyone who was at church followed the rules of peace and love while they were there. I use to listen to the choir at church and watch my mom sing along with the look of complete happiness on her face, and I told myself that I’d learn how to sing so I could give her that feeling whenever she was down. So I learned how to sing, but on the flip side of things growing up in the hood there’s a lot of less fortunate people living in poverty and singing is not always the tone needed to match the energy to describe what we went through growing up, and for that reason I learned how to rap.”

M Dot Taylor has a new single called “Tap In” That features Ice-T, A.D From Compton, and Glasses Malone from Watts California. It was produced by Clyde Strokes, and the Video is Fire. S/O to Jarett Bellucci the Conclusion for the visual. It will be available on 9/11/2020. Check out his single “Stylin” featuring Fedie Demarco, it has over 24k streams!
