Get to know: Ray Vision (Exclusive Q&A)

Ray Vision’s musical journey began as a lighthearted venture with friends in high school, but it quickly transformed into a profound means of self-expression. Hailing from Portsmouth, VA, and shaped by the vibrant community of Chesapeake, Ray draws inspiration from a diverse array of influences, ranging from Speaker Knockerz to Ed Sheeran. His creative process, fueled by raw emotion and crafted with precision using FL Studio, yields music with a powerful message: take control of your life and embrace accountability. Despite facing challenges such as wavering motivation, Ray’s determination has propelled him to notable achievements, including winning Moss Fest 22’ and performing for industry heavyweights like Atlantic Records and Badazz Entertainment. As he looks towards the future, Ray Vision remains steadfast in his commitment to his craft, anticipating that the best is yet to come.

We at HHR got the chance to chop it up with Ray Vision to get to know him a little better. Check out the exclusive Q&A below:

HHR: Let’s start with your musical journey. How did you initially get involved in making music, and what role did it play in your life?

Ray Vision: I started making music with friends in high school as a joke. Later, I naturally found myself using music as an outlet as a form of expression. What drives my passion for music is the process of taking real-life events from my life and being able to express those events through music while reaching people.

HHR: It sounds like music became a significant part of your life. Can you tell us about your roots and how your upbringing and community influenced your musical style?

Ray Vision: I’m from Portsmouth, VA, but spent more time in Chesapeake, VA. My community definitely influenced my musical style along with my friends and the artists I’m inspired by.

HHR: Speaking of inspiration, who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how do they impact your work?

Ray Vision: A few of my biggest musical influences are Speaker Knockerz, Lil Wayne, Youngboy Never Broke Again, Quando Rondo, & Ed Sheeran. Not only in these artists, but I find inspiration in anybody I come across, whether you make music or not.

HHR: That’s a diverse range of influences. Can you walk us through your creative process? How do you typically approach crafting a song?

Ray Vision: A lot of my songs start with an emotion. I may be angry, and I’ll start the song expressing my anger and build from there. I record and engineer most of my songs myself using FL Studio.

HHR: Your music seems to carry a message. What is the main message you aim to convey to your audience through your music?

Ray Vision: The main message I’m aiming to convey to the people is that you are in control of your life even when you have no control physically. Stop blaming everyone else for where you are in life and take accountability for the areas you lack mentally and physically.

HHR: Along your journey, what have been some of the greatest challenges you’ve faced, and what achievements are you most proud of?

Ray Vision: The greatest challenges I’ve faced thus far would be lack of motivation. Getting caught up in the numbers would take away from the enjoyment, so I had to shift my focus and be more patient, understanding that everything is falling into place. My greatest achievements thus far have been winning Moss Fest 22’ & performing for names such as Atlantic Records & Badazz Entertainment.

HHR: Looking ahead, what do you envision for your musical journey? What are your aspirations for the future?

Ray Vision: Looking forward, I don’t know what’s next for me in my musical journey. I feel what’s to come will be greater than expected. All I can do now is stay focused and keep a positive mindset.

Ray Vision’s journey through music exemplifies the transformative power of artistic expression. From humble beginnings to impressive milestones, he has navigated challenges with resilience and emerged as a beacon of inspiration for aspiring musicians. With an unwavering focus and a positive mindset, Ray continues to push the boundaries of his creativity, confident that the future holds even greater opportunities. Get to know: Q The Question

Explain who you are for those who may not know

Q The Question is the best promoter and one of the best music execs in history. I’m a bonafide hustler that doesn’t take no for an answer and ready to shake shit up.

How did you get the name Q The Question?

Well when I did college radio at my alma mater North Carolina A&T, I just didn’t have a name. I just went by my initial Q and my last name. Q. Hatfield, until Ant Butta butta who I did the show with gave me the name. I wasn’t sure about it at first, then I loved it.

Where are you from?

Philadelphia!!! I grew up in the Germantown section on Chew and Locust Ave. Die Hard Eagles fan and all.

How did you get involved in the music business?

First I was an intern at a company in Philly called Royalty Records. They would do showcases and stuff like that for artists, especially many locals in Philly. I would help pass out flyers, promote the events and more. Next I got started off as a journalist for many Hip-Hop Websites. Websites and blogs such as HIPHOPDX, Yo Raps, HHNLive, Ozone Magazine, The Source you name it. It was great to interview my favorite rappers, singers, athletes, just celebs in general. I gained many connections and all that.

Who would you consider your influences?

It’s so many! Puffy, Master P, Dame Dash to Berry Gordy, Clive Davis, even Coach K and P of QC. I would like to add Rick Ross, Meek Mill, Yo Gotti, Birdman, Jay Z, Nas, and Nicki Minaj. It’s so many names who I respect that contributed to the culture in many ways, whether musically or from the boardroom. Let’s not forget Kevin Liles, Steve Stoute and Birdman as well.

What are you working on for the rest of 2022?

Well, my label SKE Records is taking off and it feels good the hard work is being noticed. Looking to sign more talent and win the game. Shawn Archer’s new project “4 Yall” 2 is doing well and I’m also working with and managing Jada Ali, she’s got fire! Check her new project “Hard To Love” out now.

What services do you provide for artists?

Public Relations, management and street team promotion. It’s been great to work with many major and indie labels working projects. When it comes to the street team, we got Philly on lock. Talent is one thing but it takes a team to push that talent as well, it goes hand in hand.

What do you usually look for in an artist?

Work ethic is major for me, also charisma and song making ability, but if the grind matches the musical gift you can’t lose.

Anything else you’d like to say?

That when it’s all said and done, Q The Question will be one of the best to ever do it.
