Indy Spotlight: Dezjack

alex

Explain who you are for those who don’t know
My names Dezjack and im 22 years old and im a hiphop artist.

Where are you from?
Im from South Florida. I was born in Carol City moved around a bit in the state of Florida but most of years have been spent in Broward.

Whats it like growing up where your from?
Well I moved at the weirdest times in my life. So I cant pin point on how it was growing up where Im from exactly because i’ve lived in a small city for some time in central florida (New Smyrna Beach) and I’ve lived in a fast paced one(Miami). So I have different perspectives if I can say one thing it would be south florida is a very multicultural area. I have friends from every island you can think of. Its very diverse and everyone is tryna get to the check some way or another. Anyway they can. We hustle.

How did you get into music?
I grew up listening to music my mom playing alot of R&B and my step pops n cousins played alot of rap. At some point I wasn’t really into music heavy because I was outside doing dumb shit so I missed alot like, its sad but I missed when Lil Wayne was dropping The Drought 1 2 and 3 that whole era of music. I was so into my own world of shit music wasn’t important at all but it was always there lingering. I recall when I moved from Broward up to New Smyrna Beach. I visited one of my homies (Tj) for a week and he was playing alot of music. Asap Mob, French Montana, Schoolboy Q, Chief Keef and others. Thats when I started to get back into music heavy I was probably 16 at the time. I didn’t start writing until I was 19 after I went back and studied just about all of hip hop. So yeah if it wasn’t for my homie Tj introducing me into what was the wave at the time that had me go back and listen to other shit I probably wouldn’t of been making music.

What is it that you do?
I put my life and my truth into words over a beat and out comes my version of hiphop.

What are your goals?
My goals are to someday give back to kids like myself. I remember being that kid that was just tryna find himself but never ran with crowds. I always did things a lil different and stayed to myself. I wanna be able to speak to those lonely kids, under privileged kids, kids of single parents. Cliche but the kids are the future. I don’t remember alot of role models growing up which explains why alot of my friends got records or are in jail.. No one cared like they said they did. So I wanna be that helping out anyway I can. I mean thats really all for me other than normal goals like success of course and helping people out anyway I can. I wanna position myself into being one of the biggest artist from florida. I want all the accolades I can get. All that good stuff. But the main goal is to inspire.

What are you currently working on?
I have a short project of 7 or 8 tracks Ima put out before the end of the year thats done mixed and mastered. Currently though Im working on a project ima drop next year. Also I’m shooting videos trying to get the visuals right.

How do you feel about the current state of HipHop?
I feel like the current state of hiphop is good. I think its alot of artist out there so you could find what your looking for. I like where its at. Because you have your kendricks coles and then you have young thug and lil uzi. Its alot going on. As long as it stays authentic and niggas aren’t out here having the culture regress the state of hiphop will be good.

Anything you would like to say?
My friends give me the confidence to make and put music out. The niggas I roll with and the homegirls I love and adore inspire me more than they know. Im an ambivert, a introvert and extrovert. I keep to myself because I’ve been through alot. I just so happened to have fell in love with making music and I wanna do it on the biggest level I can. With that I have to embrace more of the extrovert thats in me. My friends bring that out of me and Ill forever be grateful for them.
