DJ Winn was born in New York, Florida raised is set to become one of the best to ever do it. At a young age his mother gifted him with a boombox and his passion for music began. His mother Mary Anne was a fighter, but she had a disability that limited her ability to take care of her kids, which cause DJ Winn and his siblings to go into foster care. On his 18th birthday, DJ Winn was released from state custody with a $600 check and no means to take care of himself. In order to make some fast money he started hustling in the streets, but fortunately he turned his life around and shifted his focus to music.
DJ Winn eventually linked up with friends and their shared love for music pushed them to form Gutta Sounds, a group that would go on to see success in their market. DJ Winn would later transition into DJing full time and his ability to scan among records to find a hit is what set him apart. He has worked and been an intricate part in breaking records for Yo Gotti, Plies, YFN Lucci, Lil Baby, and many more.
DJ Winn makes sure to take time out for community activism, such as speaking engagements, his annual Thanksgiving turkey drive, and to DJ for charity events around his community. Phantom Caine is a new artist from Ontario with a lot on the way. He recently released his new debut project “Crying In Autotune” – Check it out below. 8 dope tracks for your ears. If you’re a fan of underground artists, this is a must listen!
BIO:
Merging together a frenzy of different genres ranging from punk and alternative all the way to R&B and rap, Phantom Caine is an up and coming recording artist from Ontario, Canada, who is currently making waves in the modern hip-hop game. Having already received praise from music legend XXXTentacion as well as a co-signing offer, Phantom is no stranger to the world of popular rap music. Though still up and coming, don’t be fooled, Caine is no run-of-the-mill Soundcloud rapper. The emerging artist has been on his grind for over eight years now, steadily growing his streaming numbers up to the hundreds of thousands and developing a dedicated following. Even featuring on songs with artists like Gucci Mane, as well as receiving shoutouts from famous Youtube entertainers like ImDontai. The young artist discovered music-making at the age of fourteen when he started self teaching himself how to use FL Studio. Being someone who deals with issues like depression, he used it as an escape from reality and a way to heal him and his listeners’ pain. Though not growing up in a very musical household, he cites the music his parents listened to like Enrique Inglesias and Dean Martin as some inspirations early on. Not to mention his own father, who’s unbreakable work ethic has stuck with him to this day. It wasn’t until he was pulled onto the stage whilst watching a Jazz Cartier concert at age sixteen that the young musician realised he wanted to commit his life to being a recording and performing artist. The rush of being in front of the crowd stuck with him and he has been working hard to fulfill his dream ever since. Now in the process of releasing two big projects in 2020 (an EP called ‘crying in autotune’ at the start of the year and an album later on), Phantom is on the verge of something massive. Having worked with top tier talent such as Ronny J, Yung Tory,, Fat Nick and even underground rap icon Bones. The new EP is about the relentless struggle for success in music that Phantom and many others have to go through to make it big. The 8 track EP also delves into his own personal feelings of being a bit of an outcast in society. He’s clearly already bound for greatness though, with his hard hitting Trippie-Redd-esque track ‘Misery’ gaining over one million streams online a few years back. as well as his edgy rap cover of TLC’s ‘No Scrubs’ (renamed ‘No Thot$’) also hitting numbers in the hundreds of thousands very recently.
We recently chopped it up with DJ The Rapper and talked about his new project, where he’s from, what’s next for him, and more. Check it out below:
Explain who you are for those who don’t know
DJ The Rapper, I’m 17 years old and I’m the hardest youngin out– POINT BLANK PERIOD!!
How long have you been doing music?
Umm, I’ve been doing music since I was 10… going on 11, so 6 years.
Where are you from?
I’m from Nashville! Lived in Houston, but I rep Nashville, Tennessee.
Who are your influences?
I’d have to say Lil Boosie when I was young–like, when I was real young…right now I’d say myself!! I’m just different like that! (chuckles)
What are you currently working on?
Well, I am still making music, because that’s what I actually LIKE doing. But I’m putting all my energy and focus on the album I just dropped– Problem Child– y’all go stream that!. I’m not really working on anything else, just pushing this right now.
What can we expect from your new project?
HITS!! Every song is a hit– 12 out of 12!! No skips!
Do you have a lot planned for the rest of 2020?
Yeaaaa!! I plan on dropping all 2020! I plan to be one of the hottest out by December– no cap! Because it takes a couple of months for an album to blow. But I have faith in ME, so I plan to be popping by the end of 2020.
Anything else you would like to say?
Go stream Problem Child– that Problem Child is out NOW by DJ The Rapper featuring Lil Baby, Youngboy, Clever, and Boosie
We recently chopped it up with Canadian entrepreneur, Jay Honest. He is a man of many different passion’s/businesses. We talked with him about his beginnings, his grind, label, and where he plans to be in the future. Check it out below:
Where are you from?
My names Jay Honest from Ottawa, the capital of Canada
What’s it like being from there?
The city has its beautiful pieces and its broken pieces, like a puzzle, some are missing, such as city wide support even for basic things outside music, rising as a musician or rapper from my city is (in my opinion) harder than most places as canada has a small population, not many major label resources, and not much happens out here unless you live in Toronto or Vancouver.
Who are your Influences?
Because I had split parents, I had a wide range of musical influences growing up, from country to metal to pop and rap, Pac & Bone Thugz, to Three Days Grace & My Chemical Romance, to Ne-Yo & Chris Brown. These days I’d say I’m highly influenced by the more energetic mainstream rappers as that’s my musical preference, Rich the Kid , Tyga, SkiMask to name a few.
What makes you different from other artists?
I don’t have a team, since I began planning this back in 2012, I did it all alone, never had a big groups of friends that were into creating, in my city there isn’t a lot of that, and when you find it, they are already busy with their team. To say I’ve achieved 1.4m streams, played shows, have fans around the world and maintain my life thanks to my music, I’d say that makes me different, cause, regardless of what anyone says, thinks, the image they have placed on me or the doubt they have in their mind, I am too determined to stop trying until I succeed
How long have you been doing music?
Since I was extremely young, my bestfriend/brother was an extremely talented musician before his passing in 2018 (Rest In Peace Matthias Foks) , and he would always play music, he got me into it really… Age 6 i’d say was when i was writing songs, poems and formulating proper song templates, since then I’ve been experimenting and developing.
Talk to us about your label. What’s it called?
HONESTGANG, we’re a group of young talented individuals all chasing the same thing, happiness and success thru our passion. We have singers Nicki Tha Great & Devonté , Female Rapper Kvyybez & Rappers Millinnial X & Myself aswell as a group from Kenya finding great success right now called Sheddy Empire , you can find all them at www.honestgang.us/artists or on instagram @Nickithagreat @devontesworld @kvyybez @millinnialx @iamjayhonest @sheddyempire
How did it start and why?
This goes back to my bestfriend Matt, before he passed, our goal as kids growing up was to make a team of like minded people, and when he died, realizing I have a son, I needed to make this passion into a career to help sustain not only myself and my family but to help others do the same the way my brother would have wanted. I take no royalties from my artists, no percent cuts, no publishing, no masters, its UNHEARD OF in the game currently and its more of a family than a label.
What’s next for you?
I may have a project dropping very soon, before 2020 is over, or next week, who knows, I always have content for my audience wether its my hourly stories on instagram , my daily posts or on my youtube channel! But I see a major feature coming up!!
Anything else you’d like to say?
thank you to HipHopsRevival for the feature, thank you for reading and be sure to check me out @iamjayhonest on instagram and on spotify under ”Jay Honest” , listen to a couple songs, my catalogue is big and guaranteed to have atleast 1 song you will enjoy!!
