How did you come up with your name?
My name is actually my real name, at the time when I started rapping no cool nicknames were really sticking so I chose to run with it cause it went well together.

Where are you from?
Hartford, CT. The city can be very dry at times depending on what type of person you are you have to really create your own fun. It’s very cliquey and standard, its some what like hell for creatives because there’s not much support and belief for the arts. Violence goes on like any other city but if you keep out the mix you won’t be affected much. At the end of the day I wouldn’t trade where I come from, the hardships made me more humble and consistent.

How did you get into music?
My father and my older brother rapped, when I was in 3rd grade I made my first song ever but because my father never made it and wasn’t in my life I chose to hide my talent until my junior year of High School when my close friend “Vee Skeeno” persuaded me to take it more seriously.

What makes you different than other artists?
My flows separate me from other artists, my style, and the way I think in general is different from artists today. I’m really pushing for a state that doesn’t get any thought at all when it comes to Hip-Hop. Music really is my passion, I don’t do it for a check like some and at the end of the day I’m still going to write as a release from outside stress.

What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on my first album ever called “Smoove World” and I’m hoping to really break through and disrupt the game with this one so I’ve been taking my time on it.

Anything you would like to say?
Yes.. Watch out I’m drippin drippin, watch out I’m drippin!

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

Boleyjack. An artist who tells stories of love, pain & triumph.( Best I could come up with) lol

How did you come up with your name?

It’s my last name.. Started to use it as my stage name when my grandfather passed a couple years back.. Used to go by Davey.

Where are you from?

Louisville, KY.

Whats it like growing up where your from?

There’s a lot of Love in the city. Also a lot of hate.. you hanging with the wrong people or get caught wrong place wrong time, bad news.. gotta watch how you move forsure.

How did you get into music?

My dad put me on stage with a mic at age 5 so I think I was predisposed.. Growing up watching my big bros rapping I started writing my own songs @ age 10, got serious about my work in highschool I’d say when I got grounded all I could do was write music.. learned to channel my energy from my life Into my craft.

What makes you different than other artists?

I think it’s from all I’ve Been through.. the more things you go through in life the more experiences you get-the more you’re able to speak on and relate to others that may have been through the same thing.. a lot of people tell me I make “Real music”.. so I think that’s what makes it different, it’s real.

What are you currently working on?

I’ve been working with some of the best producers in Louisville to bring together a homemade classic album for the city. Few visuals in the works too.

Anything you would like to say?

Don’t ever let somebody tell you what you can’t do. Ive came a long way..people that know me know I’ve been broke & down bad. They know I was homeless in college, they know I worked any odd job available to pay for school/studio. They know I didn’t have a scholarship or anybody helping me pay for school @ UK.. but they know I still graduated. Since I’ve started to find my way, I can look back now and say all the trials and tribulations were worth it cause I wouldn’t be where I’m at without them. I’m not where I want to be..yet, but to be able to look back and see where I’ve come from.. I feel blessed.

Indy Spotlight: Jay Steez

img_0115

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

– I’m Jay Steez from the 515! not your average joe hahaha ,I’m a Miami Dade artist, trying to make a name for myself. Having a few singles out and couple of features, you can find them on apple music and all other platforms.

How did you come up with your name?

– I used to skateboard back in 09 till around 14′ or so and my friends would call me steezy cause of how I’d skate
So I put together my first name initial with steez and thats really all there is to it. Everything I do comes with ease , haha. STEEZY ya digg

Where are you from?

-Originally born in Honduras, straight trenches , from poor to  whole lot better now but just trying to get more for my family and myself now that I got the opportunity to be in a better place.

Whats it like growing up where your from?

-Well,back home was all crazy, whole lot of violence cause gangs take over small towns and you can’t even be out late at night but that all changed when I moved to Miami,Florida. I moved to Dade when I was 9,I’m 21 now so Really I feel like Miami is where I grew up and molded me to how I really am now.
Dude county is dope man, always was in the skate scene and just vibing, partying , its what we do here.

How did you get into music?

– I got into music relatively late,at least when it comes to rapping and recording , this all started early 2016 around march is when I first stepped foot into the booth and learned how the whole recording process goes and the production behind it. I’m very open with listening to about all genres from Metal to Old school boom bap hip-hop,thats why you’ll notice my sound is pretty vast. But thanks to my boy GTS getting his macbook and messing with garage band and logic pro is when we got interested in recording music and putting our ideas into life.

What makes you different than other artists?

– I think what separates me from other artist is the ability to fit into just about any sound and do my own thing. From ear bleeding screamers to singing to some upbeat tempo and to some trap influenced bars. I actually produced a record and mixed it myself with the little self taught mixing and its done pretty good, I got Cameronazi on it,He a boy from New York doing his thing and the record is a different wave, safe to say we killed that one.
But then you’ll see me spit some bars on other tracks , like the one I got with Lajan Slim , It got everyone going crazy asking for visuals and more work. So you’ll definitely see a lot from me

What are you currently working on?

– I’m working on my very first tape , which should be dropping later this year , I’m just taking my time to perfect it and deliver something great, some big names on the tape , will leave that as a surprise so make sure y’all stay tuned for that.
Also got a new record I just dropped a couple of days ago, “Move” featuring local artist Andre Da Tippa so we got the video being shot late august and the video with Lajan Slim being shot in the new two weeks, so a whole lot of work coming

Anything you would like to say?

– Just want to say Thanks to everyone who is rocking with me and my team ” Southside Krooks” we coming with the pressure this year and aint stopping , shout out to GTS , Sori, Nico , alexia and tippa. They really got my back on this man so look out for more heat to come, and stay connected to all my social media, feel free to get at me,I respond to all fans and artist wanting to build.

Indy Spotlight: First Class Music

img_0104

Explain who you are for those who don’t know.
We are First Class Music. We are 3 brothers. Skyy Phreshh (artist), Scottie
Phreshh (artist), And Julien (Juice)Haygood (project manager). We are just
some young men motivated to express what we go through in our
everyday lives and capture that via songs and visuals and other aspects as well.
We Try to tell stories, but also keep the audience tuned into the musical aspect
Of it also. We released our first single “Mary J” in September of 2015 then we
Dropped our first official project “Peace To the Gods” in June of 2016, that
helped us get a lot of major local blog write ups and shows and also helped us
get a nice size buzz in Milwaukee.

How did you come up with your name?
Skyy Phreshh came up with the name one day just politician. There was a
different name, but we had to change it because it didn’t represent who
we were as Indivisuals, so we switched it to First Class. FirstClass is more so a
mindset than a Name for us, like a lifestyle.

Where are you from?
Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. But we live in Ohio.

What is it like growing up where you’re from?
Milwaukee is cool. Super versatile. There are underground chefs, videographers,
Skateboarders, photographers, and promoters. Milwaukee is filled with
untapped potential. Our fans/supporters are the shit. We call them the “Pylots.”

How did you Get into music?
We’ve always been into music our whole live, all different types of genres, and
we have always been rapping and writing songs since we were in middle school,
but then we started to take it more serious and started to organize everything
and that’s how we became First Class.

What makes you different than other artist?
To be honest We are just ourselves, that’s definitely a question that we would
like the viewers and supporters to answer tho.

What are you currently working on?
Well we just Dropped a video to our single “PUER REGES”. We also have another
video/short film “Hell On Earth” set to drop pretty soon. Also a Brand New EP
“PUER REGES” also set to drop soon as well. We are also working on a couple of
Movie Scripts, some Beverage Ideas, some car ideas, house appliances, a little
bit of everything to be honest, just trying to do as much as possible to set forth
Something kinda positive light for the world.

Anything you would like to say?
F I R S T C L A S S M U S I C.
LIVE BY IT.
DIE BY IT.
FLY BY IT.

Get to know N8TE below in our exclusive q&a interview with him

Explain who you are for those who don’t know..

A. My name is Nathan Bradford. Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI. 21 years old. Pretty chilled guy who likes to have fun. Like to laugh and make others laugh. A positive person and hardworker. I keep to myself a lot and not the loudest in the bunch. But I’m a person who’s willing to help you in any situation and always there for friends and family.

How did you come up with your name?

A. Nate is my nickname. Didn’t really wanna pick a name that didn’t mean anything so just went with a name everyone around me knows me as. I made it N8TE to make it a little different.

Where are you from?

A. Milwaukee, WI

Whats it like growing up where your from?

A. It’s tough. The crime rate, violence, drugs is serious here. Milwaukee, WI has been getting a lot of attention the past couple of years for that. I didn’t grow up in the best neighborhoods around here and didn’t get into the streets like most kids around here are. That’s not me and never will be. It’s more out there then the street life that Milwaukee needs to see.

How did you get into music?

A. I’m a music head. I listen to mostly anything from rap, rock, reggae, r&b & etc. So the music I hear influences me all the time. Freshman year in high school (2011) I recorded my first song with my older brother who’s a rapper also goes by Picaso Jetson. People I was playing it for supported the song so I got the confidence to make more music and turned out to be something I like to do. I use to sit in school or at home just writing to see what I can come up with. Now I’m older I’m really focusing in on the music and Tryna become as good as I can and learn from other artists.

What makes you different than other artists?

A. Being me makes me different. I have different situations, different thoughts or even being in different environments from where I’m from. Everyone is different. I don’t copy people because of a hot sound. My music is gonna come from whatever’s in my head at the moment and whatever beat I like. I don’t go for a certain sound. I just let it flow and come out.

What are you currently working on?

A. Right now I’m focusing on single records. I am very new to being a artist. I wanna put out different vibes to express my difference in my artistry. A full length project for me is not in the works anytime soon. I wanna build people into getting to know who I am and what my sound is.

Anything you would like to say?

A. “My Ex” will be my next single dropping. It features Breana Marin. Song is a very smoove vibe that many people who’ve been in past relationships, heartbreaks will understand. My music is gonna come from everything I go thru or observed. Being true in my music will give people a better understanding on me and hope I can grab the ears. More music will be coming soon…

Indy Spotlight: Cyphaa aka SamuraiCyph

img_0095

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

What’s good y’all, I go by Cyphaa aka SamuraiCyph or that one fly samurai, which ever is dope

How did you come up with your name?

I got the name Cyphaa because of all the freestyle cyphers I used to get into with my boys back in high school. We would skip school alot of times to light up, throw a beat on, and just rap for hours. I fell in love with that shit, the whole cypher vibe/feel meant a lot to me. That’s hip hop man, so I decided to run with it

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Queens, NY. Jamaica Queens if you want to get technical. I moved out to Orlando, FL at the age of 16 and been here since. I ain’t complaining, Orlandos dope.

Whats it like growing up where your from?

It’s pretty rough where I’m from originally in Queens. I got into a bunch growing up out there as a kid, you know how it is running the streets younger then your supposed too. Built my stripes and what not. But Orlando, man Orlando ain’t no joke either lol. Me being from up top, I came thinking things are sweet. It has its beauty, but definitely lives up to it being the ‘dirty’ south. They get live out here lol.

How did you get into music?

I got into music in 08 actually. I was really big into listening to freestyles and shit. Really big into listening to cats zone out and go off. Moved out to FL and met a few dudes in school who were really out here freestyling. So, I linked up with a few of them and started joining in on the cyphers they would have in the backyards, or school yards, wherever we was at at the time. Fell in love with the reaction and feelings people got from hearing me. From then on I fell in love with the realization that I can create a vibe that can affect each and every person that comes in contact with it a different way. That shits priceless .

What makes you different than other artists?

I’m not here to be like/sound like /act like /talk like /please etc , ANYONE. I’m here just to bring my own sounds, vibes, and waves to the table. I don’t focus on other artists. Don’t get me wrong, im huge on music and new/old artists, and I respect them greatly, but I’m really here just trying to generate my OWN type of vibe for people. And those who rock with it, I do it for them. Everything else is irrelevant to me at this point.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on a collaboration tape I have with Creamaveli3600 and the GTBPG movement, & also Mackk Glee$h and the 1upWorldWide movement. It’s gonna be pretty lit, make sure to stay tuned for the release date to that.

Anything you would like to say?

I wanna thank HHR for talking with me. Huge s/o to my SKROLL label mate FrankDollaZ, the whole GTBPG (Creamaveli3600, GTB Sayce), big ups to my bro Mackk Glee$h and the 1upWorldWide movement. Read our full q&a interview with Grainz below:

Explain who you are for those who don’t know?

My name is Grainz North. I am a Hip hop Artist from Toronto. More specifically, from North Side, Galloway area located in Scarborough.

How did you come up with your name?

I came up with my name because growing up people around me always said when I performed or spit my lyrics, they felt it. So, I realized early on that I had the ability to move people with my words. Most people when they hear the name “Grainz,” automatically think of ammunition. However, my name is a metaphor for just having the ability to impact/hit people with my music. I added “North” to my name because being raised in North Side Galloway (NSG) and I’m coming from the North (Canada) also in North America.

Where are you from?

North Side Galloway, Scarborough (Toronto).

Whats it like growing up where you’re from?
It’s real. Growing up where I am from is no joke. It’s not easy, especially because both my parents passed away before I turned 16. It’s just been my brothers and me, but I love how tight my community is and how we support each other. The love I get from my neighborhood and close friends is what motivates me to keep going and continue to put out music. My brother Jerz and I started our own company The Way Out Inc., and it became a movement in our neighborhood. You will always hear my team and me saying #WayUp #TheWayOut. Everyone is trying to invest their time in something they are passionate about and can help get them out the hood. S/O my whole team and the man dem in Galloway, dun know.

How did you get into music?

I started writing music at 11 years old. But then I stopped because I was occupied with other stuff. When my father passed in my arms, I needed an outlet to express my self. Anyone that knows me, can you tell I don’t talk much; I’m real quiet but observant. The passing of my father ignited a passion in me to stay occupied and focus on music. It was also a way for me to communicate and share my lived experiences and about stuff going on around me and in society.
What makes you different than other artists?

I am a critical thinker, versatile artist and I write my music. I’m very engaged in every creative and business aspect of my music and The Way Out Inc. I put a lot of thought into my lyrics, and I speak on real shit happening. But I can also make music that can people moving in the club. I am also a fan first of my music before I decide to put it out there. Sometimes, I just listen to my music because it’s helping me get through the day. It feels nice when people hit me up like that track made me feel good, or say they can relate to what I’m talking about in my music.

What are you currently working on?

Now, I am working on releasing my EP, The Way Out, set to drop in fall 2017. Also, I have a music video for “Entrepreneur” and “Goin Thru Hell” coming out soon. Look out for more music, videos and some other news.

Anything you would like to say?

I just want to say appreciate this interview with Hip Hops Revival and the support from the U.S and Toronto blogs, as well DJ’s, Producers, Radio stations, my fans, The Way Out team and my Publicist Arifah. You can stay updated with my music, videos and get to know me better off my social media sites. Everything is under my name Grainz North. If you want merchandise, my team is pushing The Way Out shirts, email thewayout6@gmail.com to place an order. #WayUp #TheWayOut
