Explain who you are for those who may not know

I’m Beanz, I’m a rap artist.

How did you get started in music?

I started with poetry around the age of 11. When I was 14, I started messing around with placing my poetry on beats. Then I started writing more and more to beats and shortly after I graduated high school, I started devoting all of my time to it.

We read you started writing poetry at first about household struggles. What was your childhood like growing up?

My poetry was just a way for me to express myself. I wrote about any and everything. Things I’ve been through, things I haven’t personally, love, anger, it was always about things we go through in life in general. I always had a good relationship with my parents growing up. I grew up with a stepdad who’s been in my life since I was 2. He’s also a DJ, which gave me a lot of my musical background. My moms been my right hand for as long as I can remember & also my #1 fan today. I was close to my pops growing up until he went away for a few years. I’ve had the same best friend since 2nd grade til this day. I graduated with an almost 4.0 gpa and always was on my P’s & Q’s when it came to school. I always say I was raised with the best of both worlds. I was raised book & street smart which I’m sure has a lot to do with who I am and the artist I am today.

Do you still write poetry?

It’s funny because I just tapped into it the other day just on some messing around shit. Before that tho, I didn’t write an actual poem in years.

Who are your influences with writing?

Honestly, I listen to a bunch of different music so I wouldn’t say I look to anybody specific for inspiration. Its such a wide range of music that I listen to, it’d be unfair to narrow it down to a few. Depending on how I’m feeling I might throw on some R&B, rap, Spanish, even jazz. It really just depends on my mood and what I’m feeling like I need.

Your debut project is dropping this spring. Can you tell us more about it?

Yes my new project is dropping very soon. I’m super excited about it! I put a lot of work and time into this. I feel like a new artist again. I’ve been doing a lot of work on not only my music, but myself. So with the project, you will be able to hear that in what I’m speaking about, the delivery, the flows. Overall I feel great about it and I’m looking forward to sharing it with the world.

Any cool features?

Fasho! We got Reason on the project so far, shout out to Reason & that’s all I can say for now lol

When will it drop? Do you have a date?

I don’t have a set date as of this moment, but I’m shooting for May since that’s my birthday month lol

Anything else you’d like to say before we go?

Yessir, I appreciate y’all and everyone who took the time to read this. I’m just as passionate about the people who support me as I am my music. Lookout for my new project dropping soon! I’ll post about it on all of my socials as soon as we have a set date. Salute Hip Hops Revival! Thank y’all.

Indy Spotlight: Kay Nine Tha Boss

Kay Nine Tha Boss. Based out of Santa Ana, California, Kay Nine Tha Boss grew up listening to many types of music. The love he developed for Rap helped grow him into a well-seasoned artist. Music not only helped him to cope with everyday life but eventually became a viable platform for Kay Nine to express himself.”

We recently linked with Kay Nine and conducted an exclusive Q&A with him. Check it out below:

Explain who you are for those who don’t know.

I am a firm believer that consistency is a key ingredient in becoming successful, in anything you do. I’ve had to sacrifice a lot throughout my Rap career to get to where I am at today. I’ve slept in my car, spent my last dollars on buying beats and gone without sleep for way too long. I had cut out people who I thought were close friends. In the end they turned out to be cancerous to my future. All I know is I have to grind to get what I want and where I want to be.

How long have you been doing music?

I began writing and freestyling at the age of 12. As I got older I started taking rapping more seriously and treated it as a career you know? I saw rap as a way to earn a living and to express myself artistically. In 2010 I independently released my debut album “Reality Check”. That album was a big hit and helped establish my fan base that has only grown since then. From that day forward I told myself I was going to become someone big in music.

How did you come up with your name?

Prior to the release of my first album, I went by the Rap name “Bad Habit”. Kay Nine was my street name. I earned it since I was very aggressive. I had a chip on my shoulder, and I wasn’t going to let anyone get over on me.I decided to make it my Rap name so that people in my neighborhood would already know who I was and it represented who I was in the Rap game. I added “ThaBoss” to separate me from anyone else out there who potentially had the same name.

Who are your influences?

I respect artists who are on their grind and evolve with the industry. There is nothing worse than a person who is all talk. I’ve ran across a lot of artists who say they are working on music, but never put it out. They chose to hold onto it for whatever reason. I’m a believer in dropping quality content and growing my fanbase by doing so. You can’t gain fans, and creditbility, if you have no music out. As a kid, I use to listen to a lot of Brotha Lynch. He rapped about California gang culture and had a dope style. He was relatable to my mindset during those times. As I got older, I became a fan of Nipsey Hussle. He grew up gang banging and came from the same generation as me. He was a businessman who represented growth and gave back to his community. That was something I was able to relate to much more in my adult years.

How did you link with Spice 1?

I opened up for him at a show around 7 or 8 years ago in Mammoth Lake, CA. I had the opportunity to introduce myself and took advantage of it. He came off like a solid dude and we hung out that night. After that show, we kept running into each other at different events. He ended up doing a show in my city, Santa Ana and asked me to pull up. I came out that night with a few homies from my hood.Spice 1 just clicked with everyone like he was from the hood. That gave me a different type of respect for him. After that night, we talked about me signing to his label “Thug World Music Group”. In May of 2019 I signed to his label and it’s been official ever since. We’ve done a couple songs together. One of my personal favorites was, “King Me” which was a huge hit and we followed it up with a remix. It’s been a dope relationship. He’s definitely dedicated to helping me grow my brand.

What are you currently working on?

I released my latest album, “Clarity” on January 5th, 2021. Since then, I’ve been releasing music videos for songs off of the album. The focus of this album was to bring everything full circle from my past to now. I want to motivate people to not give up on anything in life. I’ve went through a lot of close calls that could have landed me in prison or even killed me. I wanted to share my struggles and successes. I’m currently working on a new single featuring Snoop Dogg and I’m hoping to drop it sometime this summer. I can’t release the title just yet but know it’scoming really soon.

Anything else you’d like to say?

I create music from first hand experiences. Everything I talk about is real from my personal experiences and from the soul. I have a story to tell and want to everyone to enjoy hearing about it.

Explain who you are for those who don’t know
For those of you who do not know me, I am John aka WavyLifeOfJohn. I am a 21 year old videographer. I came up with the name WavyLifeOfJohn because I was at a lower point in my life and I was letting people’s opinions of me affect how I viewed myself. One day I woke up and said “This is my life, Why am I letting people dictate how I live it?” That’s how I became WavyLifeOfJohn.

Where are you from?
I am from New York, specifically Valley Stream.

What made you first pick up a camera?
I first picked up the camera in 11th grade. Me and my close friend 100yrd who is a producer would just hangout after school and take pictures of eachother on our Iphones. Then one day I actually took my moms camera out of her room and used that to take some photos. 100yrd told me that the photos I took were fire and that I should start doing it professionally. That’s when I realized I had fallen in love with the camera and the creative process of taking pictures.

How long have you been filming?
I was always taking pictures but I realized that directing, shooting and editing a music video would allow me to be able to dive deeper in the creative aspect of my mind. So in the beginning of 2019 I shot my first music video Speedway Forgiato Ft Roadrunner TB & Savy – Soulplane.

How long does it typically take you to shoot and edit a video?
Depending on the type of video it can take up to 2 days of shooting or I can finish everything within a few hours. Typically I start editing as soon as I get home front the shoot this way I can see if there is anything that I can do better for the next day. It usually takes me 2-3 days to finish editing a music video, and a couple of hours to finish editing a vlog style youtube video.

What’s your fav video you shot?
My favorite video that I shot had to be Speedway Forgiato Ft Roadrunner TB & Savy – Soulplane. This was one of my first videos that I ever shot. The video was done in Brooklyn and the whole time was extremely funny. There was never a dull moment on set. Plus the energy from everyone in the video was amazing.

What’s the funniest story you’ve encountered while shooting a video?
The funniest story that I have was during this summer when I shot a youtube video for a youtuber from the Bronx named Kai Cenat. The video was staying in the woods for 24 hours. Off camera when we were halfway done filming we ended up getting chased by a swarm of bees. I ended up tripping a falling flat on my face while Kai was literally in a boxing match with 3 bees. I then got up and began fighting the bees with Kai, Afterwards we couldn’t stop laughing so we had to stop shooting for a little bit and calm down.

Who would you like to shoot with that you haven’t?
I would honestly love to shoot a music video for Lucki. All of his videos look trippy and abstract and I feel like I would do an amazing job editing for him. Another artist that I would like to shoot for is Lil Uzi Vert because his energy on camera is so upbeat that I feel like we would have such a good time shooting and laughing.

Do you ever see yourself filming a movie?
I definitely do see myself filming a movie, but I would want it to be a motivational film. Like one where the main character comes from nothing and works his/her way to the top and proves the people that doubted them wrong.

What’s next for you?
There’s a lot that I have in store for the people who support me. In late April I have my second piece from my clothing line @secludedarchive releasing. I also have a few videos that I am going to be releasing for local artists.

Anything else you’d like to say?
I would just like the people out there reading this to know that they should never let anyone tell them that their dreams are too big. If you can dream it you can achieve it.
