Read our full q&a interview with Grainz below:

Explain who you are for those who don’t know?

My name is Grainz North. I am a Hip hop Artist from Toronto. More specifically, from North Side, Galloway area located in Scarborough.

How did you come up with your name?

I came up with my name because growing up people around me always said when I performed or spit my lyrics, they felt it. So, I realized early on that I had the ability to move people with my words. Most people when they hear the name “Grainz,” automatically think of ammunition. However, my name is a metaphor for just having the ability to impact/hit people with my music. I added “North” to my name because being raised in North Side Galloway (NSG) and I’m coming from the North (Canada) also in North America.

Where are you from?

North Side Galloway, Scarborough (Toronto).

Whats it like growing up where you’re from?
It’s real. Growing up where I am from is no joke. It’s not easy, especially because both my parents passed away before I turned 16. It’s just been my brothers and me, but I love how tight my community is and how we support each other. The love I get from my neighborhood and close friends is what motivates me to keep going and continue to put out music. My brother Jerz and I started our own company The Way Out Inc., and it became a movement in our neighborhood. You will always hear my team and me saying #WayUp #TheWayOut. Everyone is trying to invest their time in something they are passionate about and can help get them out the hood. S/O my whole team and the man dem in Galloway, dun know.

How did you get into music?

I started writing music at 11 years old. But then I stopped because I was occupied with other stuff. When my father passed in my arms, I needed an outlet to express my self. Anyone that knows me, can you tell I don’t talk much; I’m real quiet but observant. The passing of my father ignited a passion in me to stay occupied and focus on music. It was also a way for me to communicate and share my lived experiences and about stuff going on around me and in society.
What makes you different than other artists?

I am a critical thinker, versatile artist and I write my music. I’m very engaged in every creative and business aspect of my music and The Way Out Inc. I put a lot of thought into my lyrics, and I speak on real shit happening. But I can also make music that can people moving in the club. I am also a fan first of my music before I decide to put it out there. Sometimes, I just listen to my music because it’s helping me get through the day. It feels nice when people hit me up like that track made me feel good, or say they can relate to what I’m talking about in my music.

What are you currently working on?

Now, I am working on releasing my EP, The Way Out, set to drop in fall 2017. Also, I have a music video for “Entrepreneur” and “Goin Thru Hell” coming out soon. Look out for more music, videos and some other news.

Anything you would like to say?

I just want to say appreciate this interview with Hip Hops Revival and the support from the U.S and Toronto blogs, as well DJ’s, Producers, Radio stations, my fans, The Way Out team and my Publicist Arifah. You can stay updated with my music, videos and get to know me better off my social media sites. Everything is under my name Grainz North. If you want merchandise, my team is pushing The Way Out shirts, email thewayout6@gmail.com to place an order. #WayUp #TheWayOut

Get to know: Roman Da’Fro

img_0082

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

Hey folks! My name is Romandrey Manning aka Roman Da’Fro and I am a young 19 year old hip hop artist coming out of Garland, Texas looking at a chance for exposure and success. I want know the feeling of being in the spotlight, entertaining millions of people around the world enjoying my fantastic music.

How did you come up with your name?

I know you’re saying right now “how did he get the name from Roman Da’Fro from Romandrey Manning ?” Well its quite simple actually, so here’s the story on how I got that name. One day in the garage having a studio session with my pops (which is my producer by the way) he said to me, “So what are you going to start calling yourself now that you’re rapping doofus”. “How about yung doofus?” he suggested. Then I realized he was being an ass again so I just kinda ignored him. But I never sat and actually thought about until he brought it up so it was good he brought the idea to my attention. This after my first week of recording (November 2015 age,17 ) so now I had to think what I was gonna be calling myself, what will everyone call as they scream my name as I rock the mic on the stage. My first suggestion was the initials of my name Romandrey Kzel Manning. Then I thought theirs to many rappers who’ve done that already so I didn’t call myself RKM. As I was sitting in silence contemplating my pops just blurted out “THAT!” Once he did I was very puzzled and confused “what the hell is this crazy old man talking about oh no! has he finally lost it?” But I noticed he was pointing at my hair but before he said anything else he got and walked off for a smoke break. I thought to myself what does my hair have to do with anything? Then it hit me! My fro, that can be my signature their aren’t any hip hop artist that I know that rock Afros(everyone seems to be into colorful weird rainbow dreads for some reason). Theirs people that love how I rock my hair they always wanna touch it or praise me for it. But the reason I started rocking it is because that’s how I express myself, I don’t give a damn what other people are doing with their hair. Theirs also people that always suggest (which sometime irritates me) “Hey! why don’t you get dreads?” Why? because their not my thing not every dude with a lot of hair has to get dreads you know. This is how I express myself as an individual. But back to the point, so I started from there with my fro. So I started with “The Fro!” but that wasn’t dope enough for me. So I took the first five letters of my first name “Romandrey” and got “ROMAN” then changed “the” to “DA” and that’s how I got Romaaaaan! Da’Fro. Then from there the name stuck I thought it was dope and so did other people so I kept it.

Where are you from?

I was born in Dallas but mainly raised in Garland and as far music goes down here I feel like it slacking. I was born in Dallas but mainly raised in Garland. As far music goes down here I feel like it slacking. Back then I remember riding in the car with pops as he listened to Texas artist such as Z-ro, Fat Joe, Big Krit and Scarface. But besides that theirs nothing music oriented going on in Garland and Dallas has turned into a nothing but trap fanatics doing nothing more, nothing less. But there are a few indie artist down in the area I have respect that are keeping the art alive.

What makes you different than other artists?

What separates me from other artist is my originality, my own personal, and unique look which gives off a different vibe. I’m not one to be flashy either, never been one to go out of my way to but something I know I can’t afford. I just do my own thing and try my best to stay who I am because i know this industry will change you.

What are you currently working on?

As of now I am currently promoting my singles “Flawlessly Imperfect” and “Gallery”. I also have an official video for one of songs “So Sick” and I have an mixtape out titled “Ace In Da Hole”. So as of 2017 I have plenty of content and more coming

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

It’s Sonny Guap, Guap Guap , Guap 2 times, Guap 4 times and all that. Real Kind official kind dude, ya know..

How did you come up with your name?

Originally my name was Sonny K. “K” stood for that money lol “Sonny” came into play some time in middle school n stuck ever since. Now it’s Sonny Guapo . “Guap” which still stand for money. That’s all I talk about, that’s all I really wanna hear these days . Motivation music to get up go get it, for me and anyone else who got they ears open to me.

Where are you from?

I’m from Maryland . “I’m a PG county n*gga, catch me coolin round the way” lol Up and down 301, but Hollaway where ya find me mostly. I’m at where I’m at, everything goes on. Always official kind sh*t on my end though

Whats it like growing up where your from?

Where I’m from it’s low key but anything can go on at any point and time . Upper Marlboro usually gets over looked on everything because of the fact that houses are a lil bigger so people assume ain’t shit goin on. But it’s still all the same shit going on . Still shootings, still Snakes in the grass , still geeking police, Still hot niggas, still real niggas and all that type shit. I stick wit my kind , my kind only. Anything other than this “Dolo Money” I wear across my chest faithfully is usually irrelevant.

How did you get into music?

I always loved music. From a kid where I didn’t even know how to write, but I would still think I was doing something lol. Actually spelling out sounds I’m hearing in my head like “dee-doo bee-doo” lol I eventually got good at writing, because out of all my classes no matter how old I was always advance in english. Then one day I just said “F*ck It”, I listen to all these cranking songs on the regular from other people, why not be listening to some crank and it’s me I’m listening to. I write music every day because you go through different stuff everyday. I like to keep everything fresh, never forced. Gotta live to tell a story. Nowadays it’s too the point where I got enough music to last me, so I usually only listen to me .

What makes you different than other artists?

I’m Guap 4 times. To understand that you gotta understand me . I put my life in the music, they either gonna like it or there not. And that’s the mentality I keep. I don’t really worry about any other artist so I feel everything I do is gonna be different. I don’t follow the crowd, never been that type a guy. They go left I go right. I keep my core team and we smash the gas for this Dolo Money brand. Just us, no rap buddies or anything else like that

What are you currently working on?

Benihunna The Mixtape is dropping soon. The collaboration tape “2 Man” with my brother Kwa following right after. I’m halfway through 2 other solo mixtapes as well. A lot of movies on the way, and even more “Real Kind shit”

Anything you would like to say?

It’s Dolo Money Gang , Get Rich Season my n*gga Guap 2 times or 4 times don’t make me a difference . I love everyone who’s been rocking with me and all the future people to get hip. I’m keep running it up for y’all till I get a bag “and I ain’t talkin bout’ shoppin” Guap Guap Guap Guap.

Indy Spotlight: TShannell

We love linking with new talent. Today we bring you a dope new artist named TShannell. Learn more below

img_0076

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

My name is TShannell and I am a composer and writer. I am an advocate and investigator of the truth.

How did you come up with your name?

My first name is “Tatianna” and my middle name is “Shannell” . It’s actually my name and it has a nice ring to it as well as looks good to me on paper.

Where are you from?

I was born in Camden but i was raised in Columbia, the met , the 803 .

Whats it like growing up where your from?

I come from a city where small minds are always bored. Everybody wants a way out but nobody wants to pave that way . They want handouts or want or want to leech off your success . If everybody associated their success with one anothers success we would all collectively progress. SC is really a boiling pot right now. Atlanta is the prime example of a city putting their self on so I’m a firm believer SC can as well. Its the south so it be hot down here.

How did you get into music?

Growing up I always listened to music . I was always around it , every where I went I was hearing it . I felt disconnected from my environment as a child not always being familiar with every song so I’d always go look it up later and continue to listen, return and be just as knowledgeable as all the old heads. Music moves me in a way nothing in my life does. Nothing can tap into my emotions so deeply and quickly. The only thing more powerful than speech is music. I’m an introvert so music gives me an opportunity to take abstract ideas and organize my thoughts.

What makes you different than other artists?

Artists do not inspire me. I dont sound like Lauryn because she doesnt inspire me. I dont sound like MC Lyte because she doesnt inspire me. Although I do listen to these women, everything I experience and observe is the sole resource and influence of everything I write. Although it may be relatable, my bars are still 100% an extension of myself.

What are you currently working on?

My next tape . #METAMORPHOSIS I also have some videos I am putting together for my music as well.

Anything you would like to say?

You came from your mother so basically you are your mother and your mother is you. On the grand scheme of things, when i say Iove myself I’m really saying I love you too reflection but insecure ass niggas either hating or scared to show love . If you scared to show me love I don’t want it . I wantsupport from those that when I say “I love myself reflection” the only response is “I love myself reflection” .
