Explain who you are for those who don’t know

Im Texaco J. A rapper from Houston Currently in LA. I make music for a living.

How did you come up with your name?

My homeboy gave me the name while we were having a conversation about mumble rappers over the phone. I decided to keep it because i felt like it would catch the attention of a specific fanbase who are cool to hang around.

Where are you from?

Northside of Houston, TX

Whats it like growing up where your from?

Its mad diverse. I was lucky. I grew up where its safe. Now its more people hustling in the streets. Im focused on my current success so i can get my parents outta there & into a new pad in The Woodlands.

How did you get into music?

When i was in 7th grade i got tight witt a homie named Chris, who was the best spitter in the middle school. & we was homies, right. So, one day he showed me his studio set up he had in his bedroom and we started rappin in there every day after school. And since then i been craftin my skill to what it is today.

What makes you different than other artists?

What makes me different is the fact that im 100% honest and true to who I am and you care hear that originality in the music.

What are you currently working on?

Im working on a first official mixtape with the help of my cousin Ray Parker Jr. He’s helping me record at the studio in Calabasas.

Anything you would like to say?

To my supporters: Keep pushing to do what you feel is right. That end goal that you been longing for will come to you with much focus. Thoughts have substance.

Get to know: OB

Explain who you are for those who don’t know?

For those out there that haven’t heard of my name yet, it’s OB. Like O-B, simplistic right? When I moved to Orlando, a lot of people I came across had a hard time saying Rohan, and they started calling me Ro. I like Ro too, but I decided that I can make it biblical in a sense. So I said, I’ll make my stage name OB in short for Obadiah.

Where did you grow up?

I come from the Garden State, and more specifically “The Queen City” Plainfield, NJ. As I stated earlier, I moved to Orlando to further my college education at UCF. Growing up in Plainfield was type rough. Yeah I wasn’t roaming the hood but I was always a different person. My frequency was so different so it was hard to have people stick. I was a pretty decent athlete back in high school and it paved the way for other successes. Kid with good grades but still made teachers nervous. Had to deal with fights, gun violence, niggas getting stabbed, and slapped to sleep, metal detectors at the entrance of my high school. I just thank god, I played life well so far and can live to see another day.

How did you get into music?

I’ve been interested in rapping since freshman year in high school, I used to be in a rap group and my boy was named G money, I can’t even remember what I called myself shit wasn’t serious back then. As I went through school I put it on the back burner because of sports. But college sparked my interest all the way back up.

What makes you different from other artists?

I’m completely different from any other artist based off of my story alone. Growing up with no cable and ramen noodles seemed typical, but it’s the story behind it all, the trials and tribulations that made me go to music as a scapegoat. Then I started thinking, it was time for me to start doing what these other guys were out here doing, and start making a profit so my Ma could get out the hood.

What are you working on?

I’m currently working on an Introductory EP, about 8 songs. Im working night in and night out to produce the beats myself. It’s gonna be called “Garden State Kid.” It’s really about the come up for me in this music game and how I progressed from a one dimensional optimist, to a more versatile visionary artist.

Anything else you would like to say?

Shout out to god first and foremost, and my fam up in the Garden still pushin, we gon be straight one day, my niggas down here doing this shit with me. Doja Paxx, and Fiji Voss, without these two, my motivation would be harder to keep up, we push each other in the studio and classroom everyday, and being a student-artist, we make it look easy sometimes. Be on the lookout for they come up too. Paxx releasing “WYD” on iTunes Monday July 10th, it slides.

Indy Spotlight: Tyso SPRME

tyson

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

Im Tyso SPRME from Milwaukee, Wi.

How did you come up with your name?

It’s not too interesting of a story haha but since high school my bro Virg would always call me Tyso. He was the one who gave me that name basically. I went through the whole being in high school trying to be an rapper, trying to figure out a name that doesn’t make you sound or look stupid, so I went through a lot of names but once I told myself it’s time to get serious about this music stuff I knew I needed a name that would be just as serious as the artist an the music. The Tyso comes from my original name Tyson and the SPRME is just short for Supreme. The two together creates the name im known by now which represents me at my fullest, me at my “supreme” or “ final form”. Just me giving my all.

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Jeff. City, Missouri, then I moved to Milwaukee around 01 an been here
since

Whats it like growing up where your from?

Growing up in Missouri i don’t remember much but since being in Milwaukee I loved it an hated it growing up. I moved around a lot throughout the years so I’ve lived almost everywhere in this city. Seen some things, heard things, lost friends, gained friends. This city is the reason why I don’t believe in the word “friends”. I only have brothers. So growing up here has taught me a lot as much as it’s changed me as a person.

How did you get into music?

My cousin Nolan (Nol Polite) got me into music. I’ve always loved music, my dads side of the family is heavily influenced by music and very involved in their own music endeavours so it was bound to happen to me. Just differently of course. I started off learning how to piece words together to rhyme. Then he taught me how to prodcuce and from there I just ran with it. Eventually I learned how to not just piece words to rhyme but to formulate them accordingly to my life, my feelings and what the listeners may feel or want/need to feel. I’ve been making music for years but I’ve only been seriously making music for a year and a half now an the blessings have been amazing.

What makes you different than other artists?

My story. My life. My visions. My thoughts. My secrets. All these things make me different as a artists. All these things make me better as an artists as well. Just apart of doing things my way the way I envision it.

What are you currently working on?

Right now I have my first solo ep entitled “While You Wait” that’s releasing July 14th, which is just something to hold my supporters over until I finish my full length debut but it’s also to gain new supporters and put them on to something new. There’s vibes on this project, lyricism, life, lessons, words of wisdom, me telling secrets or things people may not know about me,even hits for the ladies of course hah. It’s all on this project and it will all be amplified ten fold with my full length project. This is just the “appetizer” sort of say.

Anything you would like to say?

Just want to s/o everybody that supports me and everybody reading this right now. New and old. I thank all y’all and couldn’t make these dreams possible without y’all and I pray for more blessings and success for you and I. Most importantly more great music! Major love to everyone over at Hip Hops Revival for this opportunity as well. Make sure to follow my social media accounts as well!!! Bless!!

Tamani Joy – Ryder ft. JustJosh

New video release from Tamani Joy titled “Ryder” ft. JustJosh out now! Stream it below and read our exclusive Q&A with Tamani when your done.

Explain who you are for those who don’t know?

My name is Tamani Joy, I’m a 22-year-old artist from Baltimore, MD. My influences range between genres, Indie, R&B, Rock and my strongest being Hip-Hop.

How did you come up with your name?

Just as I got comfortable with my previous moniker Zzleepy, it hit me “Tamani Joy.” It’s a combination of my First, Middle and Last name. I felt that the music I was beginning to create was a lot more personal than before, my previous name didn’t necessarily represent much but a metaphor for being high.

Where are you from?
Born and raised in Baltimore, MD

What’s it like growing up where your from?
Baltimore is a small city the East isn’t far from West and everyone knows each other. Good or bad it seems like there’s always something going on. For me I just stay out the way if I’m not working on something at home or at the studio, you’ll likely find me in the backwoods somewhere. As far as the music scene goes we’ve been bubbling a bit and there’s a lot of talent that everyone will soon see.

How did you get into music?

Early on my dad always tried to get me to play drums so that may have been the start. Though, once I really started to get my own ear for music it was easy for me to get started. My early recordings were on a Playstation Eye microphone over whatever instrumentals I could find of my favorite songs. I’d be the first to say I was trash then but I had a drive that allowed me to keep growing to where I am now

What makes you different from other artist?

I feel like I have a different approach with my music especially in a time where not much is said anymore, or the same content and theme is repeated from artist to artist. I find it necessary to have a purpose in my music. While some song are fun and light-hearted I’d like to show you the darker side as well.

What are you currently working on?

At the moment I’m not focused on a particular project but I keep creating, learning and experimenting with new sounds. Striving to push me further every session and every song. I’d like to release 2 EPs throughout the year, I already have a gang of singles ready as well so there could be something dropping before you know it.

Anything you would like to say?

Look out for more from myself & the homies we’ve been working hard and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon! Much more to come for updates follow the Twitter, Instagram, Fanburst, YouTube or anything Tamani Joy, share with a friend, give feedback, all support is appreciated and enjoy
