Shot by Jeff Adair, Loosely based on the 90’s music tale of “Brenda’s got a baby” by the late great Tupac Shakur, Meka Jackson continues the story telling from the perspective of his current generation. The song and visuals attempt to chronicle and simultaneously correlate the generational curses and history repetition still plaguing the youth today 30 years later as prophesized by 2Pac. The ever more prevalence, normalization & glamorization of drug addiction, violence, crime & gang culture we see today as a bi-product of the absentee parentism, child abandonment and broken homes in the black community. Unjustified by the systemic slavery, poverty & mental oppression we are increasingly dealt in America. Time lapses, cycles continue and the prey become predators but who exactly is to blame and what is the resolution? “It’s been drugged out, thugged out, slugged out, young n*ggas going f*cking crazy”

Yung Mic and Jevii join forces on a collaboration project titled Double Trouble which was released on the 13th of December. The catchy title truly sums up what the album is bringing to the table as both Yung Mic and Jevii provide us with their best work yet.

Yung Mic is from Puerto Rico and Jevii from the Dominican Republic, both are making the Latino community proud with this one! Beautifully meshing their talents and versatility to create a cohesive yet very diverse project. Be sure to stream Double Trouble below!

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

I’m CrystalBaby , born and raised in Brooklyn NY! Moved to the DMV area at the age of 12. I played basketball for a year, as listening to music before games I then started gaining a passion for writing my own music.

How did you get started with music?

While in college I was invited to go to my first studio session. After being in the studio that night and singing and the compliments I had received gave me motivation to continue to pursue this career.  

How long have you been doing it?

I’ve been doing music for about 7 years now! I’ve accomplished many things along the way. I have opened for major artist such as Shy Glizzy, Jacquees, Yung Bleu, Da Baby, YK Osiris, & KillieDaKing. July 10, 2018 I did an interview with Dj Thoro on @ThisIs50 after winning a contest. 

How would you describe your sound?

My father’s from Trinidad, as my mother is from Barbados which gave me the talent to sing and rap with a island twist.

Where do you find your motivation? 

My family is everything! I gotta get them out of the DMV!

Who are you influences?

I’ve never really looked as artist as a influence. I’ve just had the passion to do it!

What are you working on currently?

I’m currently working on a hit single to drop this year!

What’s your plans for 2021?

Make sure I go Global!

Where do you see music taking you?

I see music taking me many different directions such as; modeling, clothing, owning business, etc.

“Workin’” is a track from Chaycin Change’s Summer 2020 EP OVERDRAWN, which quickly became his most successful EP yet which garnered over half a million streams to date. The Sacramento native continued making waves with a short, acoustic EP titled “A Black Man’s Vulnerability” that he released this month as well. With each release, Chaycin Change shows his versatility and continues to prove that he will not be boxed in.

The visual features futuristic, spy-like scenes where Change goes between life and animation. The animated figure of Change resembles a video game, where he competes with evil characters, symbolizing his own inner demons, and eventually faces off with each of them individually. As he faces off with different characters and emerges victorious, the symbolic scenes showcase Chaycin Change overcoming the evils that hold him back, and thus, “Workin’”.

“Workin the visual represents the everyday cycle people are in; working a 9–5 to provide for my ones own family and self while working on ones self, as well as on a vision/ dream that is working to provide for the less fortunate on a large scale. The inner work that is being done constantly is also expressed by slaying your inner demons and killing bad vibes around you” expressed Change about the inspiration behind the track.
