Everybody’s got a dream. And when you’ve got talent, your dreams get bigger and bigger and you start looking into the distance to see what you can be. You start to talk, you start to create, you start to plan. This is true for new up-and-coming rapper CompLex, who has recently gained some exposure after dropping 3 mixtapes in the last 2 years. With his witty lyricism and unique style plus a new tape on the way, this 23 year old artist from Seattle is definitely someone to watch out for.

We recently got to talk with CompLex and got to get to know a little more about him. Check it out below

Explain who you are for those who may not know.

Sure, my name is Alex aka CompLex. Im honestly just a regular 23 year old kid from Seattle trying to do what I love. I use music as an outlet to express myself so the best way to get to know me is to listen to the music. There’s always a story in what I say. Every line I put on a song has a deeper meaning and has actual feelings behind it, so if you really want to know what goes on in my head and want to find out who “Lex” really is definitely listen to the music.

How did you get your start in music?

Ive just always loved music. I made my first rap/beat when i was like 13 years old, I still have it saved on my computer its honestly horrible but at the time I thought it was the coolest shit ever. A lot of people don’t know this, but I first got serious about music when I was like 16 playing guitar in a band. But this whole rap thing started in high school when one day I just randomly decided I was going to save up for some studio equipment to try and record myself. During that same time I met these kids that rapped and they asked if I would be willing to make beats for them and help them record. I agreed to do it and after about a year of listening to them I fell in love with the art form and basically said fuck it I’m going to try this too. These guys are actually still my best friends so shout out Ryan, Telyn, and Shaq. I use to record in a bathroom at my mom’s house with these guys.

Who are your influences?

Thats a hard one because I listen to a lot of different genres of music. As far as rappers go definitely Andre3000, J. Cole, Big Sean, Jay Z, Drake and Kanye West. But right now I’ve been listening to this band called the neighborhood that I really like. That’s who I’ve been listening to the most lately, Im big on rap but sometimes things happen with the ladies and you have to bust out the bottle of Hennessy and bump the sad Rock & Roll cuts. *Laughing*

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Hopefully on tour still doing what I love with all the people I started this with.

What are you working on?

I have a few projects that are in the works but the one I’m most excited about is the new songs I’m working on with C-Sick. I just love his production and knowing that he’s worked with big industry rappers like Tory Lanez and Logic who I look up to makes it feel like a dream come true. I’m working on a new mixtape right now as well but I can’t say the name just yet. I also have another tape with my good friend Precision where he raps over my beats and the second part to a mixtape I put out last year with another Seattle rapper Simba called “The Long Dream 2”. There’s also a music video to a song I just finished called “West Side” coming out in the next few weeks so i’ve been staying busy lately.

Whats next for you?

Only time will tell, I never really plan anything out everything just comes out naturally because it’s who I really am. I have to live life and feel inspired first. Everything has to be spontaneous and has to feel right but once i find that little inspiration I’ll know whats next.

Anything you would like to say to the fans?

Just thanks for all the support i’ve been getting lately I really do appreciate you guys. As long as I know there’s at least one of you listening I’m going to keep doing this so thanks to everyone who is really paying attention to my story. Also don’t get cat fished and drink water when you get too drunk *Laughing*
