Explain who you are for those who don’t know
My name is OCKisDead, and I am a 19 year old rapper/artist from New York. If you didn’t already know, I’ve come to destroy the rap game.
How did you come up with your name?
Well, “ock” is what us New Yorkers call our local corner store owners that come from the Middle East. It comes from the Muslim word “akhi” which means brother. The “isDead” part means to be living like you’re dead. Life is too short to not do what you want and the only time you realize that is when you’re about to die. So technically, I’m already dead.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in East Flatbush until I was 6, then I moved to Rosedale in Queens.
What’s it like growing up where you’re from?
I honestly don’t really mess with a lot of dudes from my hood. Everybody wants to be the same and I always hated that shit. Everybody scams, everybody sells dope, everybody dresses the same, everybody sounds the same. I never really fit in with those dudes because I never wanted to be like anybody. I’m not gonna act like it’s not tough to live in my hood but honestly, I dodged a lot of vices I could’ve fell into because I don’t bang with a lot of guys in my hood.
How did you get into music?
I started writing music just for the hell of it when I was like 16 or 17 but back then, I had no confidence in the stuff I wrote. I always thought that no one would give a damn that I could rap. Eventually, I started getting into learning how to produce around my senior year going into my first year of college. I started back up with the rap after I met a couple fellow rappers last year September and I’ve been going on since.
What makes you different than other artists?
Well, for one, I’m not trying to copy nobody’s wave. I’m being as original as possible. I think everybody that makes music now wants to sound like somebody that’s already popping. That makes absolutely no sense. Two, I actually try in my music. I put actual lyrics, messages, energies, vibes, etc. Three, I know I can become a Top 5 rapper and I’m only gonna get better with time.
What are you currently working on?
Right now, I’m working on 2 projects to release this year, my first debut mixtape and a group tape with a couple fellow rappers, and I got a couple songs I’m gonna drop in the next 2 weeks so keep an eye out.
Anything you would like to say?
Wise up to me now. I’m gonna be great and I know it for sure. Trust me, you’re gonna hear a lot about me. A new king is ready take his throne.
