Behind the brand: “ENVY”

img_0459

Where are you from?
I was born Uptown New York, then left to Florida with my moms, brought myself back to the City after I graduated College

How did you get into music?
I got into music at a young age man before I even got into art and designing, I was like probably 9 or 10 listening to Nas mostly then Biggie, Wu Tang and then hip hop became a part of me in a way, The music really spoke to me and explained my environment.

What is it that you do?
Im A Freelance Creative Design Artist in the music industry with his own brand called ENVY, I specialize in Album packaging and Creating the overall project and visuals but i do multiple other things as well like Flyers, Animations, Business Cards, and more. I also help artist get resources and connections in order to grow and get some gems for the industry and how to maneuver. So In total I’m just a Creative / Business Man.

What are your goals?
Currently to just do what I love and be happy and content. I want to make my mark with my art in this game. I want people to see my art and be like damn ENVY did that. In 5 years from now I want to have my own studio where I help other designers who are passionate in both design and music / business get better at what their doing and improve their skills not just in the sense of art but in how to be freelancers and become bosses themselves.

What are you currently working on?
Right now I’m currently working on a lot of independent projects / small label projects but I’m always working on something different all the time and I think thats what I love about my job, i can just think of new fresh ideas daily and keep it coming. I recently did work with Atlantic, The Source, and Other big names like 21 Savage, Keyshia Cole, Cover art for Piif Jones who had Dave East on the track and his homie Prof Whyte.

How do you feel about the current state of HipHop?
I feel like a lot has happened in 44+ years in hip hop but its still growing and maturing as a genre. We just became like Pop to be honest and a lot of Trap is coming up plus this mumble generation so i dont know, we are all evolving and we gotta just be open minded to how things turn out but stay true to the roots of what hip hop stands for to the people who love the culture.

Anything you would like to say?
Yea man, shout out to JT he put me on while I was just starting ENVY, he a real one and to those kids who still grinding and pursuing their dream dont give up man no matter what anyone tells you, just focus on what you love and grind for it don’t ever be afraid to invest in yourself.

Get to know: NERDOfficial

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

My Name is NERDOfficial, aka NERD. I am currently an Audio Engineer, Music Producer, and Recording Artist in Atlanta,Georgia. I am an artist and one of the three members of the local Rap group 2sikk, as well as the Chief Engineer and Producer of the group. I currently mix for Hadiya George, The Trendsetters, Hanvador and the Brown Paper Bag Crew, Kid Mar$$ and a few other local artists (SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE ELSE THAT I WORK WITH, YOU GUYS ROCK TOO!)

How did you come up with your name?

The name NERD originated from the start of my music career in 2011. It symbolizes my thirst for the world of music and rap, as a “nerd” would for school and comics. I thought the name was fun and just stuck with it.

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Georgetown, Guyana. It’s a small country in South America for those who don’t know.

What’s it like growing up where you’re from?

I’ve lived there since I was 9, then moved to the States. As far as I can remember, it was always hot, rainy and windy. The city of Georgetown was the super populated, and the streets were always crowded, kind of like New York but without the traffic rules. I remember growing up popular, I would always be running around popping in and out everywhere in my neighborhood, so everyone pretty much knew who I was.

How did you get into music?

I got into music as soon as I moved to America. I knew when I first came up here that I wanted to become a popular singer one day just like Michael Jackson.  I saw how he impacted the world and how inspired people were by him, and I wanted to do the same thing when I got older. I wasn’t into a lot of Hip Hop at the same but my dad would always play oldies and R&B.

What makes you different than other artists?

This is my favorite question to answer. What makes me different is my diversity when it comes to music. I’m never afraid to try anything new or experiment with my sound. I feel like a lot of times artist try to box themselves in on sticking to what works for them but I often get bored of that.

What are you currently working on?

Right now I’m focused on pushing my singles that are out right now. You can find them on Apple Music or Spotify if you search my name, “NERDOfficial”. Apart from that, I am working on my Debut EP, “Lit Season”, which I plan to release on New Year’s in 2018.

Anything you would like to say?

Just keep pushing and never give up on your dreams. Just keep in mind that all it takes is consistency and also Promo! Promotion is the biggest thing you would probably spend your money on because getting yourself in front of the right people is most important. If you ever need advice I’m always willing to help those who are starting out just like I did.

Get to know: King Bone

bone

Explain who you are for those who don’t know
King Bone, Born and raised in Aurora Illinois. I’m an October baby, Libras stand up! I’m part of Next Records out of New York, I’m a God fearing father of one, and a hustler 24/7.

How did you come up with your name?
Originally I went by my hometown name, “T Bone” but the Christian rapper named, “T-bone” started getting jealous when I built a name for myself. So, I felt it was more powerful to call myself King and keep the Bone at the end of it. Crazy thing is I had never even heard of the other T-bone until he was calling me out on social media.

Where are you from?
630, Aur-City, better known as Aurora Illinois. It’s about an hour away from Chicago. We are actually the second largest city in Illinois which most people are unaware of. First is Chicago of course, we follow right behind.

Whats it like growing up where your from?
Most people think because we are considered a suburb that it’s nice, non-violent, boring, and not too many ethnic groups. Aurora is far from that. My city is just as hood as any other city just less populated. It’s really split between East side and West side. They’ve been at war with each other for some years now. I’m from the West side but thankfully I’m cool with everybody. I get love everywhere and from everybody in Aurora. It’s not too many people that can say that especially other artist. It’s just about how you carry yourself. If you come to Aurora thinking it’s sweet your in for a rude awakening.

How did you get into music?
I really started getting into music my sophomore year in high school. A few of my friends were rappers and kind of talked me into trying it. All my teachers use to tell me my voice would get me far but I never really understood what they meant by it. As soon as I stepped to that mic, I found out! First it was just for play but as I got older, more mature, and more intelligent, I used music as a way to vent and tell my story. That’s when I really fell in love with it.

What makes you different than other artists?
What I feel makes me stand out is my work ethic. I feel talent is only half the battle. There is a ton of talented artist but how many of them are willing to die about being successful? Not many. I’ve invested time and money into my own music since day one. When major labels turned me down I kept grinding and building a following for myself. Most give up because it’s hard to really be successful in music. I have a non-quitters attitude and I stuck too it regardless of the level of difficulty. That’s what makes me different.

What are you currently working on?
Right now I got an EP in the works, dropping over the next few months. Other than that I’m just going to continue to drop singles before the EP. I got a few surprise features people are going to love as well as some very talented producers. Be on the look out because it’s about to get crazy!

Anything you would like to say?
Last but not least I just want to say thank Hip Hop Revival for showing me love. Follow me on social media, everything @KingBoneSMG, much love to my Stunt Money Gang family, Next Records, and of course my wonderful supporters because I do this for them! Aurora stand up!

Indy Spotlight: Dreebo

dreebo

Explain who you are for those who don’t know?
Dreebo is multitalented hip-hop artist who incorporates a mixture of singing and rapping to create a unique sound of his own. Dreebo grew up in Los Angeles, CA and was a student athlete for most of his early life. As his dreams of becoming an NFL athlete came to an end due to injuries he rediscovered his passion for music. This became his outlet. Dreebo has a natural born ability to convey depth and soul through his vocals and lyrical content. As an artist, his appreciation for rap, R&B and native Jamaican roots heavily influenced his sounds. Dreebo has evolved and is ready to establish himself as one of the best new artist in the music industry.

How did you come up with your name?
The name Dreebo started as a joke when ii wasn’t really taking music seriously, but it stuck with the Homies & when my family started calling me that ii knew that’s what my stage name was going to be. So as ii got more serious with music ii decided to stick with it.

Where are you from?
Los Angeles, CA

Whats it like growing up where your from?
It’s confusing. There’s a lot of distractions and other things to get into, but it’s also the land of opportunity and to me the best city in the world.

How did you get into music?
ii was always into music as a fan. ii love listening to music and making playlists. ii got into the artist side of music when ii was in college chillin wit the homies basically bored, and we started makin music and ii realized ii was on to something so ii dedicated my life to it.

What makes you different than other artists?
ii don’t sound like anybody. When you hear my music it’s a refreshing new sound. ii also think ii differentiate myself from other artist with my ability to sing and still rap like a lyricist, it just sounds different. With the way ii merge the two in my music ii think that’s something the industry hasn’t seen yet.

What are you currently working on?
ii just dropped a project Called Mann In My City 3 which is available everywhere! I’m also finishing up a joint project with one of my producers Andy Ray Productions which should be out real soon.

Anything you would like to say?
If you have a dream make a plan, execute that plan, work as hard & smart as you possibly can. Then the rest will fall into place.
