Get to know: Havana Seoul

image1

How did you come up with your name?

My name is Havana Seoul. It’s a name in homage to my culture and family. My mom is Korean and Black and she was born in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. My dad is Cuban and Black and most of his family fled Fidel Castro, hence Havana. Seoul also has a double meaning. When you drop the “e”, it becomes “soul” and that in itself is a nod to being Black in America. A young nigga got soul in my veins, soul in my ancestry.

Where are you from?

I’m from PG County, Maryland. It’s a suburb and probably, the most famous suburb of the DC Metropolitan. I’m from the DMV, the 3-0 Whop, the Southside, whatever the kids are calling it these days.

What was it like growing up where your from?

Growing up in PG County provided me a lot of opportunities. It allowed me to see the whole spectrum of Blackness in America. It’s known as the most affluent Black county in the country. So there’s a high concentration of Black professionals and Black wealth. To be honest, I grew up like a Huxtable or something. Private school, traveled all over the World as a kid. But, I was always close to the city. In and out of the mix. It’s a weird dichotomy, but one I’m thankful to have experienced.

How did you get into music?

I was always a huge music fan. I remember recording myself on cassettes as a kid, always playing with instrumentals and all that. But, I got into music by way of poetry. I used to write a lot, my cadence was really fast and rhythmic people told me I should rap. So by the time I got to college I had started making music casually. I progressively got more serious about it recently.

What makes you different than other artists?

Off bucks, I’m different than most artists because I’m telling a story most people are afraid to tell. Most artists are afraid to admit that they didn’t grow up smack in the hood or that they went to private schools, and were treated like college wasn’t optional. I know that’s not everybody’s situation, but I also know that I’m not the only one. I just sound like where I’m from, like my experiences.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently working on a project due out later this Summer. It’s pretty much in the final mixing stages. At 12 tracks, it’s the longest body of work I’ve ever worked on. I’m really excited for it and extremely grateful to my production team for making everything come to life.

How did you come up with your name?
I came up with the name City from nba live 06. As crazy as that sounds. I was listening to one of my favorite songs on there. Guy had a dope line and put city in it. So I was like yo that’s what I’ll call myself. That’s how desperate I was at the time lol. I was struggling to find a name that fits and represents what my music embodies. So it’s fitting that name speaks to what I feel I’m carrying as am artist. And that’s my City.

Where are you from?
I’m from Cleveland, Ohio

Whats it like growing up where your from?
Just from my vantage point. Pain, love, frustration, more pain, and heart ache… But that’s my adult life lol. Growing up was actually more simplistic. Though I didn’t have all my wants as a kid. My mom on her own tried her best to acquire my needs. As well as my 2 other simblings. Times were hard but that adversity built me and molded me. I’m grateful growing for me in my City? Was a learning experience to sum it all up

How did you get into music?
My mom was a Christian like a super Christian. So she wasn’t into rap. She played some R&B and so did my grandmother. So I’ve always been around music. I started out singing. I hit into rap because although my mom didn’t play it. My older sister did. The first rap album I heard was “Me Against the world” by tupac. Ever since then I was hooked.

What makes you different than other artists?
What makes me different from most artist. Is that I’m me first and foremost. Everything that I’ve mentioned in previous answers tell a story. An can vouch for my understanding. I make music for the every day individual. I’m the bartender I’m the barber. I’m the marriage counselor I’m the best Friend. I’m here to talk to you. To tell you that’s it’s not just you. Your not alone but I can turn up with you. I can get you over that break up. I’m set apart because. I’m not always looking to flex on my listeners. We all go thru real issues. Whatever yours is I have the remedy for it thru music.

What are you currently working on?
I’m working on my Ep titled “Progression to greatness”

Get to know: Trapgurl Rea

trap

Explain who you are for those who don’t know

I’m a 22 year old, hot female rapper by the name of Trapgurl Rea. Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, I’m now taking over Pittsburgh, Pa . I’m inspired by street music and HipHop/ Rap but I’m versatile with my lyrics and I can rap about anything . I been rapping for about 7 years , but I took a break from it , now aint no stopping me.

How did you come up with your name?
Me and my twin loved Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka’s music. We was rocking with the whole 1017 BrickSquad movement. They always said something about Trap Girls in their music, and with the lifestyle we was living, we related to every song.

Where are you from?
I’m from the southside of Chicago, IL. The Englewood area, where people don’t even live to see 21, so I’m blessed.

Whats it like growing up where your from?
When I was growing up it was fun, we could chill on the block, or go to parties without worrying about if it’ll get shot up or not. But as I got older, it started getting somewhat crazy, I remember being 14-15 yrs old , on the block with the guys, carrying around guns , not cause we wanted to but cause we had to, it’s all about survival in Chicago. It definitely wasn’t as crazy as it is now though, now all you hear about is kids getting killed , it’s sad. My city the most beautiful city I ever seen though, the food good, and Chicago got so much talent in it.

How did you get into music?
Every time I heard a song I liked, I remixed it and did my own lil version of it, after a while I started writing my own songs, I haven’t stopped ever since.

What makes you different than other artists?
I’m young but I got an old soul, I don’t follow trends, I do my own thing. Most artists rap about anything, I like rapping about stuff I actually seen or go through. The same person you seen in my videos or on social media is the same person you’ll meet in person. Plus I wanna help build the Confidence of women with my music.

What are you currently working on?
I recently dropped my EP “Still Trap’n #FreeDoughEdition”
on Soundcloud, My Mixtapes , and ReverbNation. I’m working on the videos for that EP, and I’m working on my original mixtape right now too. Make sure u check it out
